Pros
Great environment. If you are goal driven and ambitious you will succeed. It is an academic challenging environment. You will get a lot of support if you are well aligned with a senior manager.
Cons
Politically driven organization. Salaries are low compared to other top firms. If you are below senior manager level hours are demanding.
Pros
Opportunities for advancement are quicker than most places, given a lot of responsibility at junior levels.
Cons
Work too much, and no respect from management.
Pros
There is endless learning and growth opportunity, they will pay for your education and they will allow you to work a reduced work week if you are attending school. The people are brilliant. Overtime is paid either in time in lieu or time and a half. They offer extended maternity leave and the option to go back part time if you aren’t ready to go back to work full time after leave.
Cons
You will be expected to carry a very heavy work load. Salary increases are done once/year and are insignificant. Going above and beyond is expected, you are rarely be recognized for it. Promotions are extremely rare for Administrative positions
Advice to Senior Management
You are in the business of giving companies staff retention advice, evaluate yourself!
Pros
-You get to work with lots of young people who are working toward the same thing and you can share your sentiments with them.
-Also provides a good social foundation for building and maintaining contacts to have throughout your career.
Cons
-Work/life balance not respected
-Senior management is very disconnected from the attitudes of it's staff
-People can be very petty.
-The tone is very negative at the top and it extends through to the junior staff
-Morale is VERY low
-People are overworked, underpaid and underappreciated. A thank you can go a long way!
Advice to Senior Management
Senior management needs to be aware of the attitudes of it's junior staff. They're the ones that drive the work and line their pockets so treat them properly. People work hard for those they respect and feel respected by! Vancouver is a small market and word travels fast about your reputation so be mindful of the attitudes of your staff!
Pros
-work with large group of young people
Cons
-very low morale
-no respect for work/life balance
-slave atmosphere where leadership leads through fear
-significantly lower salary at same position levels compared to other big 4 in Vancouver
-lack of partner involvement with staff (no representation at ufe party events where other firms have partners come out, lack of interaction iwth lower staff)
Advice to Senior Management
-don't have people leading the firm who have only ever worked in public practice and don't understand how to run an actual business
Pros
Great experience from beginning to end, was treated very well and given the ability to learn on the fly by asking questions and speaking with my coach and 2nd and 3rd year employees.
Cons
Felt like a number and literally had an ID number that was something like 458924823742389. Made me feel insignificant while staring at my computer in my cubicle.
Advice to Senior Management
You guys are great, always be respectful to the learning curve and different level of abilities of your entry level workers.
