Deloitte Transfer Pricing Consultant in Seattle, WA:   (Past Employee - 2009)

Pros

The people are extremely friendly and intelligent, the work is challenging and rewarding, and if you are willing to work very hard you can be very successful.

Cons

There are times when you will have to work many more hours than you would like, initially the compensation is not in line with the level of effort and competency required.

Advice to Senior Management

If you show more appreciation (monetary and non-monetary) for your junior and senior level associates, you will experience less turnover and more loyalty.

Deloitte Anonymous in Washington, DC:   (Current Employee)

Pros

I had a job
my last day is/was soon

Cons

no diversity
you have to attend happy hour at least 2 times a week to get noticed
your project depends on your security clearance level, not your skillset

Advice to Senior Management

Get some diversity at the top and stop recruiting these silly out of college kids with tattos everywhere to become managers

Deloitte Director in New York, NY:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Lots of time off, although it's hard to take it.
Opportunities to work globally.
Working with top companies.
Working on a lot of different important initiatives.

Cons

They talk a lot about work-life balance, but 60 hours a week is a minimum.
They talk about advancing women but most senior leaders are men and it seems like most of the women who have been promoted had a relationship with a senior partner.
There are no mandated 360 evaluations for managers so they are not evaluated on how well they manage, but how well they kiss up to their managers.
It's a partnership, so partners are treating like gods, and everyone else is supposed to just support them without challenging them.

Advice to Senior Management

Listen to your people. Communications is all about what senior leaders say to the underlings, but you need to fine out what's driving us crazy.

Deloitte Human Capital Analyst in Chicago, IL:   (Current Employee)

Pros

there is lots of travel, which is good if you want to travel around a lot, good pay, great benefits, great culture, fast paced atmosphere that actually challenges you.

Cons

The work life balance of my job is not that great. It is very much working 4 days per week at the client site, which doesn't leave much time for personal life.

Advice to Senior Management

you are doing a great job, but i'm not sure how leadership actually have personal lives. Even partners do much more work than they would be with children and wives.

Deloitte Senior Auditor in Los Angeles, CA:   (Past Employee - 2007)

Pros

Great people, a lot of resources devoted to internal initiatives and keeping employees happy and productive. Of course that was during the good times before the "economy" hit.

they took care of your CPE, getting your qualifications (like CPA), getting your experience on the ground.

good camaraderie with peer staff as there is a large staff group to commisserate with

Cons

really insane hours - inconsistent.
be prepared to pay your dues.

incredible amount of politics and favoritism. got to kiss ass to get ahead.

Advice to Senior Management

continue investing in your employees - that's what will keep them.

Deloitte Audit Staff in Charlotte, NC:   (Past Employee - 2009)

Pros

Great place to work- people you work with are definitely competent and can do the job. The people are what you would expect anywhere. They are all hungry for success and working for it everyday. The pay is great.

Cons

Some of the work you are doing is definitely boring- It's different day-to-day- but it is still boring. You can really get screwed in the reviews. If you do a great job and your senior doesn't like you, then they will definitely screw you up.

Advice to Senior Management

Find a better way do handle reviews. People can be opinionated at times and screw you up.

Deloitte Audit Senior Assistant:   (Current Employee)

Not worth it
1 of 1 people found this helpful

Pros

- Looks good on resume... kind of. Deloitte is a well-known name in accounting- and that's about all. If you are trying to transition out of public accounting into a corporate accounting position, you will actually find it difficult because as a public auditor you don't really gain any accounting experience. It really depends on your ultimate job goal- Deloitte might not help you if you want to be a corporate accountant.
- Good benefits
-Lots of paid time off (but you can never get approved to use it and you can't cash it out until you leave the firm).

Cons

-No work/life balance. Will work you to death.
-Everything you hear in recruiting is a LIE. There is no actual interest in developing the talent. You have no actual say in your industry, regardless of what you like or are good at. You cannot do rotations in different areas, they will just hire outside and forget about their currrent staff. And forget about transfers.

Advice to Senior Management

Require new seniors and manager to take a course on people skills.
