Pros
Gained a lot of experience. Got to work in a lot of different industries. Met some great contacts to help me out in the future.
Cons
Very long hours, most of which you had to eat. Always traveling and almost never in the office. You dont work with many people in your own skill level
Advice to Senior Management
Find a way to improve the billing process and the way projects are budgeted so that staff is not under constant pressure to eat hours so meet unrealistic projections.
Pros
Great market reputation
Good place to get your career started
Opportunity for multiple career path
Great domestic and internatinal network of professionals
Cons
For staff level person, chargeable hour is your only metric for "success". You can be very good at what you do, but ultimately you are disposable unless you are truely exceptional.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to reconsider your people strategy. Practice leaders spent too much time and effort in the market place, and Deloitte's greatest assests (i.e., people) are sometimes overlooked.
Pros
- Personal growth and learning
- Opportunities to work at high profile clients
- Working with very good people
- Training programs are good and improving
Cons
- Long hours can make it difficult to maintain work/life balance
- Senior leadership has been criticized for not handling layoffs well, during the recent economic downturn.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't forget the core "people" values that made Deloitte a favored place to work. If you take care of people well in a downturn, they will be there for you when the economy turns around.
Pros
Deloitte has a lot to offer and definitely provides you with many of options and opportunities (for those that seek them, that is). The firm pays for your CPA as well as offering a bonus, you are able to connect with a ton of great people and there's more training at your finger tips than you know what to do with. Compensation overall is great, and if you're lucky and smart enough to plan and set boundaries you have lots of opportunities to take your 25 days of personal time off. Did I mention connections and opportunity? Yes, I suppose I did.
Cons
While the culture at the firm is amazing overall, the hours are more than demanding (dwindling your marginal earning power). Also, there is a large portion of the employee and management population that are extremely dissatisfied with the way in which firm leadership maneuvered in a less than transparent manner during the recent economic crisis.
Note: Performance reviews were squeezed so lower raises were dolled out. Here's an idea, salary freeze and you rate people based on their performance - it matters to them!!
Advice to Senior Management
Lose the "I was tortured coming up, so you must endure it too" mentality. Of course the hours are going to be hell, but that doesn't mean the time you spend on your engagement needs to be, too. Please focus on actually developing people skills - we all know you're an auditor, but geez, come to grips and get more comfortable. Learn how to influence and motivate people beyond the authoritarian approach - it's the weakest and most detrimental style of management. Lastly, have fun, loosen up and BE FAIR!
Pros
Reasonable pay.
Good progression.
They pay your training. You get ACA etc for free.
Cons
Work (particularly audit) can be boring.
Advice to Senior Management
Thanks Deloitte, you are doing a good job.
Pros
Great culture that supports personal and professional development
Privately held partnership
Opportunity to try new things and challenge self
Learning programs and certifications
Health and fitness subsidy
Strong benefits package
Global footprint
Cons
Being away from home due to the contstant travel
Working long hours and not getting credit for all of them due to fixed bid contracts
Forced bell-shaped performance distribution model (10%-top
Advice to Senior Management
Need to offer greater portion of compensation based on individual performance
Prior to year end reviews, management should give a better picture of how practitioners will be rated
Pros
Flexibility with work assignments, work schedule
Exposure to several different clients and top management
Great vacation- 30 days for management
Recognition for work well done
Cons
Travel- most assignments require either travel out of town or long commutes (which are usually reimbursed by the client)
Long hours
Advice to Senior Management
I am happy wth the way things are being managed at Deloitte
Pros
Good company benefits such as time off, flexibility regarding where you can work from, good overall communication with management, great career opportunities
Cons
long hours, no stock options, poor 401k matching, salaries are not the best, lack of work/life balance, flex time is not clearly established
Advice to Senior Management
Deloitte should work a little more on narrowing the line of communication between upper management and employees in order to keep employees informed of how the company is doing overall.
Pros
Good work experience and pto benefits
Cons
Poor work/life balance, needs to be improved.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on improving work/life balance.
Pros
This is a great place to grow your profession career. Great learning and great chance to meet people. Your career path will set in motion and develop as the time goes by.
Cons
Extremely demanding for long hour work. High pressure cooker will explode anytime. Constantly work till late. You are very lucky if you can leave at 9:30 in busy season. Even in non-busy season, you will still be drained down by the volume of work and to meet the deadline. Often have to work extra long hour when at home.
Advice to Senior Management
Get more staffs and more hands. Without enough help, quality goes down and people get frustrated with exhausted work. Low compensation for the staffs is getting people and not motivate to devote to the job. In the end, it affects the quality and people leave.
