Pros
Great level of exposure
Brand value and recognition
Unparalleled opportunity to increase your knowledge, sharpen your skills and grow your expertise in a vertical of your choice
Great place to start your career
Cons
Very poor work life balance
Deloitte is your family, employees are your social circle and are the people you hangout 90% of your time
Suck up to your manager/partner/boss big time to grow in the organization
Not a great place of experienced hires
Pros
Higher salaries with excellent benefits, professional work space, covered parking, certain team members pleasant to work with, collaborative work environment
Cons
phone conversations were listened in on, many late nights required, cliques, upper management exhibited a lack of integrity, market managers exercising power struggles to make themselves look good in the eyes of partners
Advice to Senior Management
Be careful with market managers, departmental managers or senior managers who exhibit questionable integrity and are seemingly two-faced in the face of contention. Listen and offer guidance to those in less senior positions so they may be more able to protect their positions without fear of being ostracized or blacklisted.
Pros
lots of opportunities to learn and explore various industries
lots of visibility with clients
lots of upper management who actually cares about the happiness and development of analysts and consultants
Cons
lack of work life balance
abuse of power in management
lack of respect for analysts and consultants
there's a pocket of extremely unsatisfied workers
Advice to Senior Management
be reasonable
Pros
Good work-life balance
Low attrition as work is niche and limited requirement by industry
Cons
primarily body shopping and implementation and support than advisory per se
No clear structure or process as expected in a large firm
firm is risk averse, so projects with any complexxity or risk is not taken up
Advice to Senior Management
move towards better work than taking anything thrown
avoid support projects and body shopping projects
Pros
A great client network and some real good projects.
Cons
Networking is more important than job performance. Difficult to break the default promotion cycle. Too much emphasis on "firm activities" versus actual project performance.
Advice to Senior Management
Consulting is all about client delivery - focus on client deliverables and on project performance, than on firm activities.
Pros
workplace flexibility-- teleworking options; creative minds; independence; good for entry level; technology forward
Cons
Very hard grind; zero rewards and recognition; little regard for lower ranks; intense favoritism; poor leaders ascending ranks
Pros
Good pay
Good infrastructure support
Training
Access to wide clientele
Best practices
Cons
Bueuracracy
Doest support career progression. Its all about dollars. As long as you are making dollars, they keep you
Metrics play a key role over indivudal career goals. If you dont meet metrics, you better look for a new job. But if you dont work on projects that help your achieve ur goals, Deloitte is perfectly fine as long as you are billable in some random project
Expected to work looongg hrs during busy season for which you wont get additional compensation
Worst work/life balance - they just say for the sake of saying, but if you dont meet metrics, no one cares to provide work/life balance
Advice to Senior Management
I know it's business, but it should be a fair game. need to do a better job in supporting individals career goals.
Pros
Pay was above average
There are some really good people you meet there
Training tools are great
Most of the partners/directors I worked with were good to work with
Can be on the bench longer than most consulting firms I have worked for
Cons
They tell you in decks that it is "who you know not what you know" so it is very political
They groom college grads but experience hires must fend for themselves
No work/balance life..all work all the time especially firm initiatives
Performance reviews are tedious and the most subjective objective process I have ever seen
Too many people that think their stuff don't stink
Advice to Senior Management
Need to have a better process getting experienced hires acclimated into the Deloitte cult like environment.
Pros
Good career development opportunities, collaborative culture
Cons
Limited opportunities for those who do not want to travel, no work/life balance
Pros
Great experience right away
Strong background in accounting
CPA
Good feedback structure
Cons
Promotions are batched
Pay is tough and depending on market below other big 4 firms
Work load between client engagements is not always fairly distributed
Advice to Senior Management
Match compensation practices of other big 4 firms
