I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The actuaries at Deloitte are some of the nicest and most professional I have come across. I really enjoyed everyone on my teams, and I felt that they really tried to make the work environment a great place to work. I was very impressed by the intelligence of my coworkers as well as their dedication and focus on delivering great service.

    Cons

The hours can be challenging during busy season, but this is not unusual for a consulting firm. The billable hour target is higher than I have seen at other organizations. The year-end review scoring system is pretty competitive. In order to stand out, you really have to put in a lot of hours.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Abundant opportunities -- this is a place big enough to offer you pretty much any kind of experience, provided you are willing to work hard and have the skills and capabilities to excel. I found my colleagues to be smart, fair, supportive, engaged, all while providing me challenging development opportunities over the years.

    Cons

This is also a place big enough to get lost or blend in with the wallpaper. With the pace of growth, certainly some talent gets in and stays even if they're not meeting the bar. Additionally, there is the chance you'll be stuck with a less than average manager (keep in mind, though, the average is higher than usual) and your network is everything in this job.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the focus on flexibility and predictability, and look for continued ways to incent innovation with the way we deliver work, as more and more clients and employees seek to move away from the traditional time & materials / travel-based model.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time

    Pros

    - Awesome training and development opportunities (Deloitte University, online eCourses, etc.) - Killer PTO allocation (8 hours each paycheck) - Great opportunity for airline and hotel rewards

    Cons

    - Completely ABSURD salary structure: someone who sacrifices more of their life with weekly travel or more hours a week is paid just as much as someone who has a project in his or her home area (doesn't have to travel) and only works 40 hours a week. There is no recognition of working hard at Deloitte Advisory. - Culture of punishment: During year-end performance ratings, you are rated based one a number of factors, once of which is the amount of client hours you work in a given fiscal year. However, you may or may not be assigned on a project anywhere from a week to 2 months. They hammer on the concept of "owning your career" and pin the responsibility of finding projects on their consultants. This, however, is ridiculous since they have paid, full-time staff in charge of placing employees on projects. So at ratings time, if you have been unassigned for several weeks through no fault of your own, you get dinged significantly. - Everything is made up: The deliverables we give our clients is made up about 75% of the time. We either use something from a past project and tailor it for the new client, or whip of something from scratch and convince the client it is quality work. The kicker is that you know the client will probably look at our stuff maybe for a week or two, and it will get filed into a cabinet or the company's intranet. - Low morale : there are those who totally drink the consulting and Deloitte kool-aid, but it is shocking how many people are unsatisfied and don't like their job. Overall, if you like sitting inside (sometimes in a windowless office) on your butt for 8-10 hours a day, staring at your laptop doing work that no once cares about, then this is the perfect job for you.

    Advice to Management

    1. Completely overall your salary structure. Those who travel more and/or work more hours should get paid more ... period. 2. Stop punishing employees for taking PTO and not being assigned on a project. Client service hours is over-emphasized way too much.
