Pros
They definitely acknowledge that their biggest talent is their people.
Cons
Unfortunately they don't always know who they have working for them or the skills that they bring to the table. Therefore, once you get a job, you have to do the same thing to get work - network, interview, etc
Advice to Senior Management
Take stock of human capital and see the value they bring to the firm instead of just their micro-group/service line/FSS
Pros
Flexibility, looks great on your resume
Cons
Busy season (usually not that bad)
Advice to Senior Management
Bring back audit lunches
Pros
Deloitte Consulting is a great place to work. The organization excels as a full service management consulting firm with endless opportunities to grow one's career.
Cons
Deloitte's consultants travel 80%-90% of the time and the deadlines for projects to be completed leave room for litte margin of error.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to host more town hall meetings and encourage more interactive meetings and seminars that encourage both professional and personal growth.
Pros
Its a very organized place. The management of projects, people and travel is very well organized.
Cons
I found that managers do well if they know people higher up in organization. It is all about image creation. The clients are aware of this but because deloitte has big name and lots of contact in virtually any industry, they tolerate deloitte Consulting.
Advice to Senior Management
Spend time delivering value additions to client rather then stupid presentations which does not help anyone.
Pros
fun and smart people, great culture, awesome recruiters, one of the best training programs in america, SCOTTSDALE, commitment to community service (IMPACT DAY)
Cons
layoffs really effected morale, tough clients, busy season can be year-round but that's really the same for all Big 4 companies ... in a nutshell, you don't get paid enough for how much you slave
Advice to Senior Management
there needs to be more gatherings/activities to bring big offices closer together. more exposure between partners and lower level staff
Pros
Good learning experiences and opportunity for job growth. If you actively search out projects you can get a wide degree of exposure. For the most part the people are young and fun to work with.
Cons
poor compensation and long hours. You get a lot of PTO but it is impossible to use it all.
Advice to Senior Management
Allow employees to cash out PTO at the end of the year because it is impossible to use all of your PTO and still make hour goal.
Pros
Great people, a lot of resources devoted to internal initiatives and keeping employees happy and productive. Of course that was during the good times before the "economy" hit.
they took care of your CPE, getting your qualifications (like CPA), getting your experience on the ground.
good camaraderie with peer staff as there is a large staff group to commisserate with
Cons
really insane hours - inconsistent.
be prepared to pay your dues.
incredible amount of politics and favoritism. got to kiss ass to get ahead.
Advice to Senior Management
continue investing in your employees - that's what will keep them.
Pros
Very smart and competent colleagues
Good projects
Good knowledge sharing, tools & templates
Cons
Extreme competition by peers
Strange networks and politics - must belong to a network
Advice to Senior Management
Too many invisible networks and below the table affiliations
Pros
Career growth opportunities, travel, diverse set of experiences, fast-track, great leadership, relatively flexible work-life balance, challenging work, intelligent colleagues, leader in the industry
Cons
Due to the nature of the consulting business, it is difficult at times to make plans. It's important to be flexible.
Advice to Senior Management
For the majority, the leadership have an open door policy and are great at listening. Sometimes it is difficult to get all the credit for all the work completed.
Pros
Opens many doors for future employment opportunities. BIG 4 firm experience goes a long way when search for new jobs 5 years down the road.
Cons
The long hours during busy season are tiring and very stressful. It takes a lot of discipline to stay motivated.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to show your appreciation those who work on your team. The staff auditors do a lot of the grunt work that often gets overlooked.
