Pros
- Working with smart and dynamic colleagues
- Meritocracy. Good work is recognized and celebrated
- Learning opportunities. Excellent support for professional development outside of Deloitte (e.g., PMP, MBA)
- Large international structure provides more exciting opportunities
Cons
- Salaries could definitely be more competitive (at least in Montreal)
- While external training is great, internal training on some of the soft skills could be better
- Given the demanding work hours on occasion, it would be nice if this was compensated with more vacation days (or days in lieu)
Advice to Senior Management
Ensure that you adequately compensate and do enough to retain your top talent. This is a message and philosophy that needs to come down from the top
Pros
For an accountant firm, they are very innovative, there's a great team spirit.
Cons
Don't feel that there's room for progress
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to the needs of the people working inside
Pros
- Great network, great organization to work for
- Work with very talented people and hard workers
- Very well known, excellent reputation in the industry
Cons
- Long hours, intense projects, little recognition for the hard work and personal effort to deliver the projects
- Travel a lot, no compensation for travelling
- Take time to get promoted
- Work-life balance difficult to maintain
Advice to Senior Management
- Improve the compensation; better compensate high achievers
- Better support the development of junior resources
- Care for your employees and better support them in their projects
Pros
Career development is taken seriously at Deloitte with the annual personal development plan. Team leadership cares for your professional learning.
Cons
Long working hours are not always recognized to their fair value.
Advice to Senior Management
Look beyond the numbers (i.e. chargeable time) to see the bigger picture of your employees' engagement in other important elements of your current and future business (e.g., market development effort).
Pros
Great Coaching system. Have had 2 coaches with my time at DTT and they were always great. People at the firm are really fun to hang out with.
Cons
If you are a high achiever, you may not be satisfied with the rate of progression. They are slow to promote because people may take it as being unfair
Advice to Senior Management
Get to know the people you are going to work with and to your best ability try and get to like them. You will be spending a lot of time with them.
Pros
- Strong brand
- Excellent reputation in the marketplace
- International network with expert teams all over the globe
Cons
- Poor salary and average benefit package
- 24h availibility required
- Heavy involvement in sales cycle (proposals)
- Inconsistent promotion policy
- Poor support from senior management
Advice to Senior Management
- Take into consideration personal background (family) of consultants
- Review salary schemes for Analysts, Consultants and Senior Consultants
- Gratify heavy involvement in sales cycle instead of punishing (utilization rate)
Pros
Good exposure to large public clients. Good internal trining program. Highly educated staff & mgmt.
Cons
Long Hours expected during busy season.
Advice to Senior Management
Work / Life Balance needs to be made a priority.
Pros
Good to get start if you are ambitious enough to place your career first. As an associate you are going to work in the front line and gain much knowledge not taught in your MBA texts. Have fun in the parties if you are a party guy/gal. Love travel? Come here.
Cons
Bad work-life balance. Opaque promotion and performance valuation criteria. Just opposite to the pros, if you do like party, if you don't like social, if you don't like travel, this is not the place for you. You need to be proactive and dynamic enough to be staffed. Take care of your business yourself, don't count on others.
Advice to Senior Management
As people is what really counts in the company, take better care of them.
Pros
Great people
interesting clients with opportunities to move within the firm to different areas if you are looking to make a change
Cons
A lot of rules and bureaucracy since it is such a large firm
Advice to Senior Management
Be more transparent with the employees, often very secretive
