Pros
Large organization with excellent internal mobility
Cons
Often can get lost in buerocratic red tape; expectations often not communicated clearly resulting in overcommittment to clients with unrealistic timelines/resources to meet expectations.
Pros
Great knowledge repository
Exposure to Industry and technical knowledge
Cons
Staffing process is very poor, you hardly get any support from resorce manager
You need to have a supportive network to get staffed on projects,if you join from the industry, you will be passed over for others ,already in the firm for, staffing on project
I felt very lonely and lost in my first few days at the firm
I dont understand why the company is hiring so many people from outside but not doing anything to support them in integrating to firm culture and placing them on appropriate projects.
Advice to Senior Management
If you want to hire so many experienced people from outside then taking of a strategy to train and support them in integrating into Deloitte. And NO the 3 day " welcome to Deloitte" program does not help. What we need is in "on the job" support
Pros
Flexibility and access to great research and publications. Senior Management is very knowledgeable.
Cons
Work Life Balance is not what it shoudl be. Salaries are lower than other firms. Too much internal red tape. Too many forms and focus on billable hours.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on the quality of people's work not how many hours they worked this week.
Pros
collaboration, broad network of experts, intelligent people
Cons
a lot of administrative tasks, bureaucracy
Pros
Great team, great experience, great challenges, great network.
Cons
Too much work! So many deadlines with long, long, hours. They say work-life balance but they work for life. I feel that if they worked quicker and faster throughout the whole day this would prevent us from working until midnight or longer.
Advice to Senior Management
Stay reasonable and continue to care for your team as you do your clients.
Pros
great technology, flexible work schedule once they got to know you
Cons
poor work and life balance
Advice to Senior Management
management should pay more attention to staff employee and make sure they are fairly treated
Pros
Good Benefits
Vacation Accrual
Decent people for the most part
Cons
Hours during busy season is BRUTAL
Advice to Senior Management
Try to please you staff more, as they are doing the bulk of the work. Unhappy staff make the whole engagement misrabe
Pros
Deloitte has a great brand and is undoubtedly a strong implementation firm. Its self-image is that it is in a "category of one" doing everything from strategy through implementation but in reality only a very few buy business strategy; more buy operations and organization strategy and many, many more buy large scale technology and functional implementation. Deloitte does this well but they have stronger competitors at points across the range: strategy and organization (MBB/Roland Berger/Monitor?), technology (Accenture/IBM?), HR (Aon/Hewitt?), Finance (PwC?) and so on...
That said, there is interesting work with great clients. There are some really smart people and you can learn a great deal. The brand is respected and works well on a resume.
Cons
The big thing to be wary of is the insider’s culture. People who start their career at Deloitte are clearly valued the most. These people get on through a process of nepotism that leads to experienced hires - who have more to offer - being passed over for Partnership.
As a result the Partner bench is not as strong, or as rounded, as that I witnessed in my previous firm. If you wish to join, then be prepared for being led by an empty suit who can schmooz but can't provide insight. Be prepared for Partner behavior that can be downright dysfunctional.
The hours can be incredibly long as a result of the demands to contirbute to all manner of non-client activity. Some of this is necessary and has a marketing benefit but much is simply there to serve the pet topics of Partners or the firmwide initiatives of questionable benefit.
Travel is onerous inside the US and there is little opportunity to work overseas. Unlike competitors we are not a real global firm - more an affiliation.
Advice to Senior Management
Sort out the Partner process. You've lost too many top tier experienced hires in the last few years while making some average folks Partner. That disillusions junior staff and we know from exit interviews that good Senior Consultants and Managers are leaving as they see the better Senior Managers move on.
Pros
-Best of big 4
-Great learning experiences
-Wide range of opportunity during and after life at Deloitte
-Compeditive comp package
Cons
-Long hours for top performers
-Comp higher in banking counterparts
-Risk of being thought of as an accountant in life after Deloitte
Advice to Senior Management
-Luck with project staffed on and partners worked for larger part of of success than merit in the short term.
-End game not transpartent in terms of ppd comp/equity share.
Pros
Good pay, team environment and great offices.
Cons
Long hours, boring work environment.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep paying good salaries.
