Pros
Work with talented and motivated professionals.
Strong support for work-life balance.
Good sense of community with practice and colleagues.
Cons
Elitist partnership.
Difficult to sell consulting business in some sectors due to independence constraints.
Personal financial independence constraints.
Pros
well respected company
smart colleagues
decent benefits
Cons
long hours
unfair preferential treatment
no career path outside of client facing positions
Advice to Senior Management
focus on developing the team you already have instead of hiring internals from the US firm
Pros
Great Experience and opportunities to learn an unlimited amount of new things
Demands of the job help you to grow both personally and professionally
Very diverse group of people in the firm so it's a great opportunity to network and meet a lot of great people.
Cons
Stress from unreasonable workload takes its toll after a while and can really wear people out.
"Busy season" has the potential to turn into "Busy year" so work/life balance is hard to achieve.
Unfair and baised evaluation system. As a result not much of an incentive to try to go above and beyond because it won't matter anyway if you do - you'll still get an equal or sometimes lower rating as someone who didn't.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't always try to look for the negative in people - no one is perfect and everyone comes from a different upbringing so keep an open mind and give people the benefit of the doubt if and when they make a mistake and instead help them improve in a more encouraging manner. Also, I know everyone's always so busy but try to take the time to notice when someone did something good and let them know.
Pros
access to high profile clients and engagements
Cons
Clique-ish and informal networks determine advancement and recognition, often more than merit
Advice to Senior Management
Institute 306 feedback at all levels, it appears that leadership doesn't really want to know perspectives of "employees"
Pros
One of the best consulting firms among big four audit companies. Has a good brand name that could open doors.
Cons
Very demanding and hard to show and advance on pure good performance. Need to keep excellent relationship with the partners.
Advice to Senior Management
Increase internal communications, flexibility of career paths, improve work life balance, match market level compensation, improve benefits, improve recruitment process.
Pros
-grear people to work with
-the office feels like home
-ability to work from home
-possibility to transfer from office to office
Cons
-low salary compare to the competition
-long hours at the time, but there is a down time that compensate for it
Advice to Senior Management
I love my managers (so far;), Of cause we all have our crazy sides, but overall they are the once who will make me stay with Deloitte
Pros
Compensation is high compared to other Big 4 companies, but I think that can also depend on where you are coming from. In general Senior Leadership is competent and realistic in the messaging they send to employees. They are constantly re-evaluating their strategy and providing opportunities to get involved in shaping the business. Opportunities to move around are there once you have put your time in, but it is a typical consulting staffing model where it may be hard to find a project/manager that you like in the first year or so.
Cons
I have found it very difficult as an experienced hire to really integrate into the culture and find a core group of people to connect with. While there are a lot of events, they are all usually industry/sector specific so it is difficult to meet people across service lines.
While there are also a lot of really smart people here, they also tend to be the ones to tell you so. Be prepared to listen to people's accomplishments and be put in your place until you "earn" the clout.
It can be a challenging environment with late nights and lots of fire drills. Be wary of work life balance.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep employees informed and continued to get people involved in the development of strategy. This will be extremely important in keeping people's continued commitment going forward.
Pros
Flexibility, benefits, diversity & inclusion
Cons
The telecommuting nature of most people's jobs makes it difficult to network, and it's all about "who you know" when you are looking for a new opportunity.
Advice to Senior Management
Barry's team is fantastic, and their message is on point. I'd like to see their efforts carried thorugh - universally - down the line, through the PPDs and Sr. Managers.
Pros
Large practice offers many cross-functional opportunities for networking and knowledge sharing, as well as bringing the best team to the client. Great brand name on resume, overall good compensation, work/life balance and benefits.
Cons
Very large practice also means dealing with some bureacracy, also there is now a push to collaborate with the D&T side, which in some cases may dilute the Deloitte Consulting brand especially in strategy consulting.
Advice to Senior Management
Better quality management needed in DC in order for the firm to be in the same league as MBB for strategy consulting.
Pros
1) Great name to put on your resume
2) Fantastic benefits
Cons
1) No work and life balance
2) You have to know how to play those political games
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on associates who can really work and bring money/clients to the company...Not those useless brown noses
