Pros
Experience gained within different industries, intelligent group of people to bounce ideas off of, generous time off, competitive salaries within public accounting sector.
Cons
Long hours during busy season (this is expected though when joining), competitive environment, numerous management styles on each job to adapt to.
Advice to Senior Management
Have more administrative learnings for documentation and preparing memorandums; improve performance review process so employees understand how to gain top performance ratings.
Pros
Great management, a lot of knowledge sharing and very high quality work delivery
Cons
Poor compensation packages, not enough raises
Advice to Senior Management
Needs to incentify it's employees more
Pros
-Fair to good compensation and benefits (Sabattical was a nice recent add)
-People and collegial culture bar-none make an excellent work environment
-Challenging and rewarding work
-Travel perks on par with industry
-Clear career path(s) exists
-Opportunities to move around
-World class support structure for firm tools, methodologies, and knowledge base
Cons
-Although work-life balance and the corporate lattice/MCC are good concepts, at the end of the day that's what they are: concepts and theory. Employees give their lives up for their clients/projects and the firm and if you don't then natural selection occurs and you will be viewed as the weak link and be eventually weeded out.
-Expense policy on meals is subpar compared to industry. (Deloitte uses actuals vs other companies follow state laws on per diem)
-Constant travels wears on the personal life
-Firm culture creates cliques and factions of partners/sr mgrs that watch over their inner circles and protect only themselves
Advice to Senior Management
Although at the end of the day, the firm is a great place to work, however there is the word "cult" in culture. The factions/cliques that exist are the ones who have control and are exclusionary unless you prove you are "one of them" by giving up your life to become a partner/director. This strategy is not going to be sustainable with the next generation of the workforce.
Pros
There is the lost of room to grow between the staff - senior management level. If you do not have a personal life and do not want one, Deloitte is the best place for you!
Cons
Long work days during busy season. They do not care about work life balance for there employees who have families.
Advice to Senior Management
Please hire more employees! Your employee's are over worked!
Pros
At Manager level, tons of flexibility, 5 wks of vacation, discounts and lunch perks, working with smart people and exposure to technology from different clients and most importantly, learning a lot and improving on your relationship builiding skills.
Cons
Pay is not competitive at all and is usually less than the other big 4 firms not to mention industry
work life balance leaves a lot to be desired
So much pressure to meet sales goals as a manager in addition to other non-client service work required considered as "eminence building"
Nepotism on projects
Advice to Senior Management
Pay competitively and at least have a little bonus at christmas time like the other firms do.
Streamline administrative requirements, the move to have the expense import automatically linked to amex is a good first start
Consider giving professionals the option to either sell more work or build better eminence to be highly rated vs. having both be requirements and then still have to be outstanding in client service...that leaves barely any room for personal life
Pros
Great compensation. Excellent professional opportunities, even at junior levels. Flat organization and accessible leadership. When one demonstrates capability to take on greater responsibility, leadership is more than happy to provide growth opportunities
Cons
Travel can make personal relationships harder to manage. Sometimes, people more senior than you are not as smart. Lack of generalist opportunities within Human Capital consulting
Advice to Senior Management
Human Capital leadership need to do a better job at retaining talent
Pros
Firm offers tremendous learning and growth opportunities. Great mentors that take time out to groom junior members.
Cons
Work life balance isn't as great. Time spent at work isn't proportional to the compensation.
Advice to Senior Management
Improve work life balance if possible.
Pros
- Nice benefits package
- Great learning opportunities
- Clear career path
- Frequent communication from senior mangement
- For the most part, if you are willing to work and own your career, there are numerous opportunities for growth within the firm
Cons
- Long hours
- Salary is probably lower than what's available in other firms
Advice to Senior Management
While culture is great and career path are very big pluses, the truth is that you can't run Deloitte in vacuum and pretend like people don't follow industry blogs and don't know what is going elsewhere. You can't claim that Deloitte pays top $$$ when simple blog check will confirm otherwise. But if working for Big 4 is something you want, Deloitte is definitely a solid choice.
Pros
Working in deloitte offers unparalleled opportunities and exposure.
Cons
Working in deloitte is time demanding.
Pros
reputable company, great career growth opportunities, travel is fun, they pay extremely well for higher level positions, flex hours are great
Cons
I haven't been there yet, but it seems like you have to work long hours during busy season and travel a lot
