    Pros

The co-workers push the limits. Most of them are quite friendly and helpful. There are lots of available opportunities to learn new skills and get a broad exposure on client engagements. The industry reputation is also quite strong. The network is quite vast especially with alumni and also with clients who tend to hire many consultants in transition from the firm. The firm is structured to be very goal driven and you have to take your own initiative to be on the lookout for good projects that will make you and the firm successful. The firm values client service oriented consultants.

    Cons

At times, you may end up on a dead end project and get demotivated. The best thing to do is to speak to your counselor, the project senior manager, partners and try to get staffed into another project thats more suited for your skills and long term goals. Once you're past a Senior Consultant stage, its very important to maintain a strong network as otherwise you wont get far within the firm. Promotions can take too long but it is how things are structured.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are a lot of firm politics and sometimes, few managers/senior managers dont play by the rules and may pick on a lower ranked consultant. Such events can be very de-motivational and detrimental to someones career. At times, some consultants even get promoted despite questionable skills because of having a strong network. The assessment of consultants can also incorporate a 360 degree client survey rather than a completely internal assessment by the Project Manager/Partner and Counselor.

    Pros

Deloitte gives you a ton of experience and basically acts as a very intense training program for Business Analysts who are just out of college. You're given a lot of responsibility, and it'll give you a lot to put on a resume and to talk about in future interviews. For me, it really built my confidence because I had just about every potential problem and challenge thrown at me, and always managed to figure it out and come out the other end having learned something.

    Cons

Absolutely no work-life balance. The culture is to work at your client's office 8:30 to 7 at minimum, and then to go back to your hotel and either continue client work, or do 'firm initiatives.' It completely burns you out, but the company doesn't care, because that's just their business model. They always have a new crop of BAs graduating from college and ready to replace those that have left because they can't take it anymore.

Also, as a BA you have very little control over what project you get staffed on - you will basically get shipped off to wherever you are needed, regardless of your interests. And at the end of the day, most of the work is really just not that interesting - clients are paying us to do the work that their employees don't have time to do, and to put in tons of extra hours to get it done as close to perfectly as possible. Again, you learn a ton, but it's because you get so many impossible situations thrown at you that you have no choice but to figure a lot out as you go.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care more about retention of BAs. Most are extremely high performing, but are largely miserable, and only stay until they can find a better opportunity somewhere else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Mandatory client service hour during official busy season is not really working. Need to alter to one to one system.
