    Pros

Great career development structure and lots of learning opportunities.

    Cons

They don't adjust salaries for location. Adjusted for cost of living, I make 60% of what my colleagues in Chicago do

    Advice to Management

Continue to provide development opportunities for your younger consultants, and be fair between functions. The reason S&O consultants make much more than others is unclear.

  2. Great opportunity to learn, particularly early in the career

    Pros

Huge company with amazing depth and breadth of resources; Consulting has really smart people that work on a variety of problems and are generally easygoing and humble

    Cons

Huge company and easy to get lost in the miasma of administrative details, bloated shared services and general 'replaceability' of non-high performers

Deloitte's audit and tax business impose a litany of requirements (around transparency) on the Consulting business - some of these are legitimate, others drag the Consulting business down

    Pros

Lots of young and smart people to work with. Everyone is very competitive, clients respect Deloitte due to the young talent they bring.

    Cons

Ultimately my realization was it is a new age sweat shop. Typical project structure - middle and upper management White Americans. All others are from India. For cutting costs, they bring lots of people to work on H1s and temporary visa. These people would work 12-15 hours a day in addition to the travel from Mon-Thu + typically work from home on Fri and even over weekend. If you feel stressed, it is your loss.

All employees I worked with - pretty much have the same experience. Behind the scene, each person trying to go ahead of the other and backstabbing, gossip is the norm. Ultimately the client prevails and majority of work is done by offshore mules.

    Advice to Management

    Be fair to everyone.

    Pros

    Work with smart people
Work on a variety of projects and industries
    Good benefits (e.g. health care)

    Cons

At times, hard to navigate the politics
    Not great mentorship and support
I wish the firm did more in terms of flexibility of work load

    Advice to Management

Work to strengthen the Senior Consultant Program to avoid major attrition
Spend resources on helping folks to find the right opportunities to grow

    Pros

    Great Vacation PTO. Competitive Salary

    Cons

Poor structure on the global side. You might want to ask if you are part of the global team or US team. The US team is very organized with career paths, responsibilities and assistance. I joined the Global Finance team. I walked in to nobody. I had no assistance, an incorrect budget and it was planning season. I had to basically do what I thought was right and recreate the current budget and create the one for the next year in my first month. Again this was with no assistance. I would go through about 20 different financial plans for each group because right when all of your numbers were together leadership would implement a new change that basically required running everything all over again. At the same time leadership puts projects on you while you are in busy season to be finished in busy season. Ultimately Deloitte is a great company depending on whether or not your group is important or not. Performance means nothing in the Global groups. If you are in a front office position then you are good. If your job can be outsourced then know that it will very soon.

    Advice to Management

Keep a uniform structure for US and Global teams in the United States.

    Pros

Stable consulting platform from an operational standpoint
Prestigious firm with a strong brand
    Broad client service offerings

    Cons

Heavy on the overhead costs and management
HR department runs too much of how things get done
Promotion of people that are not as well qualified as others simply due to management being rewarded to promote certain classes of personnel so that Best Places to Work For rankings can stay high

    Advice to Management

Quality is more important than having lots of growth

  10. Low Pay, long hours, high turnover rate

    Pros

I have been told by other people, who have worked for both PwC and Deloitte, that work-life balance can be better at Deloitte. Given its strong consulting-oriented culture, work is done in a more collaborative way than I expected.

    Cons

Hours during the busy seasons can be bad, but it is similar anywhere within the client serving industry. Promotion seems to be very much based on tenure.

    Advice to Management

They are doing a great job.
