Pros
Deloitte remains the best place to launch and build a career. Amazing set of professionals and a contributive, non-heirarchial work culture.
Cons
They are expanding at a rapid pace especially in emerging countries and trying to compete with the mass market. The 'niche' is diminishing.
Pros
Very good culture and most coworkers are fun people to spend time with.
Clients generally have past experience working with Deloitte and are comfortable with our working style
Cons
Very health care, IT, and operations focused. You are provided little control over your staffing thus lots of people end up being an 'expert' in an area where they have no interest
Advice to Senior Management
Segment the business, our strategy group needs to be benchmarked against McK, Bain, BCG, etc. not Accenture, PwC or other IT consulting firms.
Also, grow internationally.
Pros
- Great people who really want to see the client be successful
- Above average compensation
- Great mentors
- Excellent benefit package
- Well recognized firm brand
- Variety of project and initiatives
- Strong volunteer/pro-bono affiliations
Cons
- Must travel weekly (typically Mon-Thurs)
- While most senior leadership cares about your career, there are still those who put their "wins" over your job satisfaction
Advice to Senior Management
They should find a way for those who want to excel locally to be able to do that, travel gets old...
Pros
Great company with great work/life balance
Cons
can be extremely competitive. you may need to work really long hours.
Advice to Senior Management
Please, keep growing our business.
Pros
The opportunities and the education are the main benefits.
Cons
Management doesn't maintain the same standard for everyone.
Pros
health benefits are good. Tuition reimbursement is high, $10k per year. Office location in Center City Philadelphia is nice. High profile company, they do not fret too much on travel costs (no staying at Holiday Inn, but don't expect the Four Seasons either). Good short term disability and long term disability benefits, if needed.
Cons
Must be with company for a year before receiving tuition reimbursement. Any course they reimburse for must be paid back if you leave the company within one year of taking the course. Office location in Glen Mills PA sucks.
Confusing organization -- it's like 40 small companies instead of one big one. Poor investment in IT -- amazing how many 15" CRT monitors I see in this place being used on a daily basis! Asking for a $200 LCD is like pulling teeth.
Absolutely horrific performance management system, takes a ton of time and makes no sense. No one really cares about it, only that it gets done so no one screams at you.
Advice to Senior Management
Ditch the current performance management system, get something simpler.
Pros
Provide ample opportunities for employees to grow
Work with a diverse set of people from different backgrounds
If you love travelling, Deloitte is the place
Cons
May end up working long hours
Work Life balance may need readjustment.
Advice to Senior Management
You should provide employees with international rotation opportunities
Pros
Varied work ex consisting of different types of projects, collegial culture at the workplace, company policy is accommodating for women
Cons
Low pay especially at the entry level, level of projects sometimes undertaken is quite low, practice areas are very office focussed.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay for all levels should be raised to a more market rate. Staffing should be improved to take into account needs and career choices of people.
Pros
Have some flexibility in hours, but it's at the cost of giving up personal life. Tons of resources to use and learn from to help you advance your career and knowledge.
Cons
You realize the people that get out on time have learned to off-load as much work as possible to other people. The reward, if your lucky, is almost never worth the extra effort of taking on additional work and the personal time sacrificed. Good performance only gets you so far, therefore you have to make sure you meet the "right" people in order to get a good raise at year-end.
The fact that you can only get promoted at year-end is ridiculous. HR has no clue what the client service people do. Their role is merely to pay you as little as possible to keep you happy enough. If they allowed for promotions to take place at any time, then it will motivate employees to work harder for them. It's tough telling an associate that hey, you got hired on such and such date, therefore it's basically impossible for you to get promoted even if you're the best performer ever. I mean really?!!
Advice to Senior Management
Reward your outstanding performers and stop being so stingy. We can see straight through your so-called "straight talk" sessions when you talk about the economy b/c all you ever talk about is top-line attrition, but HELLO, you've axed a ton of employees which is your COGS. Therefore, don't tell me about top-line attrition (revenue), tell me how much profits have changed and then, THEN, I'll be satisfied (or very dissatisfied b/c it's obvious why they haven't shared this) that my pathetic raise, if you got one btw, is in line. Do a better job at balancing work-loads among your employees. Very frustrating to see the same employees leave at 5:00 and then like i said, to not be rewarded for the extra effort you put in.
Promote employees at any time. When someone is ready for a new role, then promote them. It's not a rocket science concept.
"If you treat your goof-offs the same as your stars, before you know it you're going to be left with more goof-offs then stars." - Unknown. I've witnessed a handful of outstanding co-workers leave the company because of this simple mantra.
Pros
Flexibility with work assignments, work schedule
Exposure to several different clients and top management
Great vacation- 30 days for management
Recognition for work well done
Cons
Travel- most assignments require either travel out of town or long commutes (which are usually reimbursed by the client)
Long hours
Advice to Senior Management
I am happy wth the way things are being managed at Deloitte
