I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, PTO etc. Consistent work if you are willing to relocate.

    Cons

Working as a contractor, it seems most who I work with are from another country and mostly speak their primary language. I know you can't require English while at work, but that would be nice. Continuing Education is non-existent unless you consider learning MS Office a valuable skill.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For Exempt employees or at least if you are a "Contractor", you are expected to work more than 40 hours to keep your "Billable" or (Utilization) hours high enough. If you take time off, which lowers your "Utilization" even though you earned it, you are not considered for pay increases or advancement. If I have 3-4 weeks of PTO, taking this should NOT be held against me.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Strategic mindset, organized, process oriented, big focus on quality and brand

    Cons

Weak SME on implementation due to too much strategic mindset, Poor retention of technology SMEs, Poor work life balance. Lot of eminence and proposal work expected besides client serving work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hear your employees well. Be more focused in managing and retaining your delivery SMEs. They are the ones who will keep your business running in the long term. Strategy gets a foot in the door, delivery keeps you sustained. And groom

I worked at Deloitte full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Huge professional network to tap into, endless learning opportunities, variety of projects to work on, great total compensation package.

    Cons

Must grow your network organically, introductions are difficult and often you must be in the right place at the right time. Must seek out your next engagement to work on, staffing is up to you and the network you have grown. Utilization requirements are at 45 hours per week for billable client time, additional work learning and firm activities must be completed on your own time. Total hourly wage is much lower than the to compensation agreed to when accounting for the extra time spent in the evenings and weekends to complete administrative work and firm activities outside of client billable time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work harder to grow your experience hires as the firm is difficult to navigate.

I have been working at Deloitte

    Pros

Deloitte's annual raises seem pretty good, and the road to Partner is achievable (if you know the right people). On average, Deloitte pays experienced hires pretty well.

    Cons

Although on paper Deloitte advertises a work life balance, in practice (at least in the Sacramento State Practice) this is not so. Most local projects make you work abnormal hours (although in consulting longer work hours are expected, however a constant 14 to 15 hr day for over a year is not normal consulting hours). What's more, many managers use intimidation and even verbal abuse to get people to put in those extra hours (that really just hide their lack of good project management and planning).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Live the values (work life balance) that Deloitte so much advertises. Deloitte has the potential to be one of the best companies to work for, but there is way too much freedom and little oversight given to managers, which leads to results at the expense of burning out good people.
