I worked at Deloitte as an intern

    Pros

Great brand name for resume, opens doors. Lots of resources for students to learn how to network and prepare quality deliverables under ambiguity.

    Cons

Company culture is driven by politics. Most employees are in for the name and experience and are constantly thinking of the exit opportunities. Counselors/mentors are doing their job just for the kudos and the advancement opportunities. There are some genuine people who are passionate in their work but they are rare.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage a culture of transparency and transformation. Acknowledge that working for a Deloitte is a means to an end (for most) and foster coaching relationships instead of avoiding the subject. Review managers' impact on their mentees and encourage 360 transparency.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Smart colleagues, mostly interesting clients, lots and lots of airline and hotel points etc.

    Cons

Incredibly competitive ("up or out" based on bell-curve annual performance ratings) with a sink or swim sort of mentality - either you are in or you aren't. Client work PLUS internal projects (you have to bill hours to both) = really cruddy life/work balance. Aggressive management - you have to have bite to get above manager.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Very diverse opportunities - the firm is playing in all major industries and functions and is well known and respected in the professional services space for down-to-earth approach, great work ethics and focus on successful execution. National staffing model allows to align with the team and function of your interest. There are also plenty of opportunities to get involved in eminence or community efforts.

    Cons

It may be difficult to navigate complexities of working in such a large firm (although I got plenty of support from colleagues in my office). Practitioners play significant role in driving their own careers, which means expectation of choosing a few focus areas and proactively building your network in these. It may be difficult at first, but works as a great training for any future career.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Work with fortune 500 companies. Deliver large scale, enterprise solutions. Very bright, committed individuals. The learning curve is steep but the experience is worth the challenge.

    Cons

No work-life balance. Unreasonable, overly-demanding partners. Bend over backwards for client requets/demands. Constant panic mode. Compensation is subpar compared to other firms. If your life is just to work then you may be suited for this type of consulting firm.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No need to advise... they're trained to be this way.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good pay, nice people, good mentoring and opportunities if you know how to find them

    Cons

Very bureaucratic, easy to get lost in the numbers, hard to get direction unless you ask for it. Also have very little say about where you go and what your projects are - the idea of choice in projects is definitely an illusion at lower levels. Work life balance is all over the company emails these days but still close to non existent in practice. Lots of far travel and long hours make it hard to control "balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some people love travel and love long distance travel. Some hate it. Some want a mix. Actively try to listen to what people want and actually DO something about it, even if it means a few extra weeks of bench time here and there. Make people happy. Work with clients to encourage remote work as a cost savings opportunity, in addition to "work life fit"
