Pros
1) Good learning opportunities.
2) Good management support.
Cons
1) Less compensation as compared to market.
Pros
Great team structure with some amazing resources. Everyone helps one another in a team-oriented approach. Also, fantastic PTO and other benefits.
Cons
Staff and seniors are treated poorly. Scheduling is a nightmare. The pay is not reflective of the effort that is put in.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire more staff to take the work load off of all of the teams, and develop reasonable budgets!
Pros
Smart, motivated people. Visibility into practices of many large clients.
Cons
Long hours, travel can wear you down
Advice to Senior Management
Communication with staff is critical
Pros
- Great learning opportunities
- Great place to build experience and skillset
- Great opportunities to interact with senior executives at various clients
- Decent pay
- Bright people
- Great opportunity to build your network
Cons
- The primary downside of working for Deloitte is if you are not a US citizen or permanent resident, then you can forget about getting a green card through Deloitte. The immigration policy is incredibly restrictive even when competitors like PWC and Accenture are filing Green Cards in EB2 category, Deloitte only files in EB3 category. For anybody familiar with the process, this results in waiting times of well over a decade before one is anywhere close to getting a green card. As a result, as soon as employees figure out that there is no future potential for growth or getting permanent resident status when working for Deloitte, they elect to leave and join any number of other companies or competitors who are willing to file green cards in the EB2 category.
Advice to Senior Management
- Deloitte will do much better in terms of talent acquisition and retention if it were to solve the immigration challenges they have got themselves into. Change FDBL as your immigration law firm to a different firm that can solve the problem for you.
Pros
-I think that Deloitte and Touche offers you with an ability to grow and develop at an incredible pace. The Company does have many sectors, so if you are a high performer you can switch from audit to M&A or something like that.
- Nice vacation if you can take it.
Cons
-The company does give you an opportunity to develop quickly, but only does so because you work at about twice the number of hours compared to other careers.
- Every office is different and you have to be lucky to get on good engagements. I may have been a little biased because I was unlucky.
Advice to Senior Management
I think that management should provide more rewards when people go above and beyond the call of duty. Increase number of team parties and make people feel they are worth more. You currently treat employees like they should feel guilty if they don't cancel their vacations or leave work at a normal time (before 7pm).
Pros
strong goodwill tied with company name
excellent potentials to learn
Cons
no work life balance
depending on managers, reviews are not always fair
Pros
learning intensive if you work it right
some projects are extremely interesting and high leverage for clients
expertise is ultimately an asset
Cons
throw resources at pursuits indiscriminately
sound bite approach to deciding client requirements
too much cut and paste, mechanical service delivery
Advice to Senior Management
tend to your people pipeline more carefully, too many false negatives and false positives
Pros
Great pay
Excellent benefits (pto, discounts, fitness subsidy)
Name recognition
Exposure to senior management
Exposure to various accounting areas
Big offices have a very social environment
Coworkers tend to be extremely ambitious and intelligent.
Cons
The worst thing about this job is the number of hours you put in. At first it's exciting and you couldn't care less. You almost even take pride in working 80+ hrs a week. You feel strong. BUT then as the months go by, you start missing out on life and suddenly it just isnt exciting documenting why a number is or isn't correct, why controls are/aren't effective. Id rather be saving the world. Really. My teams were incredible. Sweet, smart, and fun. But the stress levels during busy season are outrageous and it never changes. Deadlines have to be meet at the expense of your personal life.
Advice to Senior Management
Everyone says nothing can be done in regards to the pressure during busy season. Well since this is the most dreaded time of year, why not dedicate resources to solve this 'impossible' problem. I mean it just seems crazy that 80 hr work weeks have to be the norm. But overall... Good place to work. But oh god so glad I'm actually having dinner with my family instead of with my team.
Pros
Good learning experience and opportunity to meet people. Also, great place to start your career as you will get exposure to many different industries.
Cons
The nature of this job require long working hours. The environment is stressful. This apply to all big four though.
Advice to Senior Management
Most of the managers are great to work with and very supportive. If there is a way to improve the work-life balance (cut down the hours) for everyone then the firm will be more likely to retain people.
Pros
Autonomy, Growth Potential, Flexibility, Challenge
Cons
Demanding. Lots of travel, resource constrained
Advice to Senior Management
None
