Pros
Market perception, experience at a multi national firm
Cons
Remuneration at higher levels seem low taken the risk profile into account.
Excessive work hours
Advice to Senior Management
Management need to address the new Gen y's needs. Companies will have to change the way they engage the new generation.
Pros
access to large client accounts, strategy and analytics knowledge not found in smaller digital agencies, exposure to many other disciples
Cons
No clue when it comes to quality user experience work. No clue when it comes to building, mentoring, or sustaining a creative team. Internal systems are terrible; placing a massive admin overhead on each employee. very hierarchy driven, but in a bad way. High staff turnover. Difficult to recruit talent.
Advice to Senior Management
get a clue
Pros
Deloitte is a global organisation with a great network of people, most of whom are intelligent and experts at their craft.
There is a very structured career development program and personal development training program.
Cons
I worked in a small team within consulting as a designer. During my time we were gradually assimilated into the Management Consulting team, and were expected to assume their processes, structures and ways of working despite this not being relevant to a creative environment.
Advice to Senior Management
Make some decisions about the strategy for your online team and communicate this to them without using buzz words and fluff.
Pros
great training, brand and people
Cons
bad pay and limited promotions
Advice to Senior Management
listen and wake up
Pros
Variety of work experience in terms of strategy, operations, and industry
Energetic, smart, fun people
Consulting group small enough that partners can take an interest in employees
Cons
Work life balance needs work, althought partners are aware of this
Compensation is less than ideal, especially now that the job market is picking back up
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to improve leadership communication about strategic direction, changes and the impacts on employees
Improve compensation now that the market has improved
Pros
The people you work with are reasonable people, some good training is provided periodically, supportive culture is another plus. positive environment is the overall message.
Cons
The expected work life balance is extremely poor, pay is absolutely mediorce if not pathetic, The hours can be extremely unrealistic hours. The work is not every strategic and can get reperitive over time and boring. 5 years accounting experience = 1-2 years IB experience and I was in M&A advisory/ Transaction services. Bottom line do your time and get out when you can. The place is also too hireachial with partners / directors/ AD's/ Managers/ Snr Analysts / Analysts/ Graduates etc.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay pay pay, stop expecting people to work like a dog and yet not pay them for the hours put in.
Pros
People are provided with a wide range of opportunities to develop and grow your career and to flex with the changes that life brings along. I have worked at Deloitte for 11 years and have had a wide range of client facing and internal roles during that time. I have found Deloitte to be a ery flexible employer. I currently work part time (3 days per week) and the balance between work and home life with young kids is great. I have also always appreciated the quality of my colleagues here as well, which makes for a much more enjoyable work experience.
Cons
Deloitte is a large organisation and it can be hard to get things done. Like in most organisations, even where there is a strong culture of professionalism, good people management and performance culture, there are always a few individuals who don't live up to their role and make life tough for those that work for them.
Advice to Senior Management
Stay ethical, keep focused on clients and employees
Pros
Challenging work and great culture. Not as hierarchical as other big 4 firms.
Cons
Lack of clarity regarding professional opportunities and career growth, many benefits only available to partners and above. Very difficult to get study leave, work from home.
Advice to Senior Management
Look for people from within to step up into management roles, rather than bringing in staff from overseas to fill management / principal positions who do not understand client businesses. This REALLY puts staff who have worked hard to try and progress offside, and happens in all areas of the firm.
Pros
Opportunities for career growth. Motivated people. Performance based culture. Great and powerful brand name. They seem to take good care of their people, atleast those who perform and those that the firm needs. Senior people are usually quite accessible and usually everyone in your home office knows you.
Cons
Internal politics can rear its head. Can be a power game sometimes. What you want to do may not always equate to what the management want you to do. So even though opportunities exist you may not always have access to them. For the calibre of people it hires and the remuneration of the partners, the other employees do seem to be underpaid.
Advice to Senior Management
It would be quite beneficial for them to align the goals of the firm with the goals of the individual as well, so that they can retain the talent they have attracted.
