Former Employee - Proposal Manager in Dallas, TX

I worked at Deloitte full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you want a high salary with a good expense account, come on down.

    Cons

You are expected to be available 24/7 and you deal with drama queens who enjoy screaming during meetings. When someone makes partner, they are no longer accountable, so they can behave as badly as they wish with no repercussions. Kiss the partner's backside and you'll do well, because that's all that matters.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop making it impossible to discipline the partners. Everyone knows who the nut cases are, so find some way to hold them accountable. We all talk about them behind their backs and do not respect them, but we have to grin and bear it.

  11. Very "institutional", impersonal type of work environment.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Decent starting pay, good benefits, a few good perks such as stocked break rooms, coffee stations strategically located for convenience.

    Cons

Deloitte touts a strong "work-life balance" and employee-centric image. That's not really the case. It's very cold, detached and feels very institutionalized. There are a lot of time wasters that are mandatory, such as early morning touch base meetings, with other department assistants, that are really unnecessary. The optional brown bag lunches seemed as though they'd be interesting but was never able to take part. Was also not able to take part in the Earth Day program. I was in a department that lacked any personability among the Partners, Senior Managers and the other EA I worked alongside. It was an extremely uncomfortable environment. Further, it was difficult to take full ownership of work processes as the company has different support departments (hoteling, catering, conferencing, travel) that basically do the bulk of the EA's work, while leaving each EA holding the bag if anything falls through the cracks. Transfer requests due to the department not being a good fit are also ignored. Parking is not subsidized. Poor raises.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you're going to talk the talk, be ready to walk the walk, universally. It's not fair to espouse such a strong employee-centric culture when the lower level employees (administrative, facilities, etc.) are not listened to.
