    Pros

Good company with perfectly reasonable base salaries and work life balance. Top rate clients and big projects, generally considered fairly high prestige.

    Cons

Huge cohort each year means finding individual career paths are challenging. Bonuses are relatively low and process for rapid promotions is relatively inflexible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work harder to keep strong performers while moving poor performers on.

I have been working at Deloitte as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Promotions are quick and fast. The company has great values. You will be treated like a person and have many different socials etc to get to know the people in your year groups.

    Cons

You will work a lot more hours than you will be paid for. Benefits are ok but not all that great in the scheme of things looking at other companies.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Deloitte is a great place to grow your skills, work with highly motivated, clever people and get a broad experience in business. Fantastic opportunities to do amazing projects - as long as you are willing to travel and work hard. Made some great friends

    Cons

Long hours, frequent weekend working, and a very aggressive approach to performance management. Deloitte used to pay well, but lack of growth in the last 3-4 years has seen pay freezes and very low bonuses. There is a perception that the partners are taking all the cash for themselves!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensation is becoming a real issue. The progression to promotion increasingly seems slow and laborious.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Partnership is much better structure than being public limited like Accenture for example; some very interesting work especially in the Digital area; very strong brand

    Cons

Pay below market rate (despite what they try to tell their staff); no respect for time or commitments outside of work - you are expected to work long hours Mon-Thurs, and sometimes Fri-Sun depending on the project

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realise the impact on attrition and morale of expecting staff to work 60+ hour weeks consistently

I worked at Deloitte full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The ability to go to develop your presence internally and externally is a change especially if coming from industry where you have micro-management. There is lots of eager people, all willing to help and partners/directors supporting you, however. The working environment is really cool in London, the amenities are great. There are great opportunities to travel to meet clients. Challenging variety of projects not just in your industry who know so well, but for clients in other industries. This gives you breadth of experience which you would not get being in industry. Self development is left entirely up to you, and there are loads of courses to help you. You get to experience what and how consultancies operate in the market.

    Cons

The people in the organisation have a huge ego, more prevalent in the younger generation (and even directors/partners) who have this notion that with little knowledge they know more than you with decades worth of valuable real-life industry experience. This I found is the nub of the organisation the lack of industry expertise. It is all a front of "we know this" and "we can do this" and so forth but lack the substance of "how to do it". It is a blame culture, and a very clicky environment. I found this off-putting especially when the focus should be in helping clients, leveraging invaluable experience and skills which is overlooked in favour of selling something which the client thought they are getting but actually didn't. They harp on how well they have delivered to clients, but not one comment from the client whether they were satisfied or not. My experience of talking to a client, was they were not. It is front, even down to how individuals look. The old cliche of "face-fits" well this place is just that with a dusting of ostracism. The final comment is for those considering moving from industry to consultancy, especially Deloitte, simply don't unless it is money motivated and even then it will be short-lived.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remove the stigma and improve the culture rather than selling pretty people with no real skills and experience. Clients want problems solved.
