I worked at Deloitte full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Salaries are good. Benefits are decent. Flexible working hours.

    Cons

Unless you are part of the Partner/Principal ladder, they tolerate you at best. You are held to standards that are not written on paper, but held against you nonetheless. Bad habit of hiring leadership from without instead of cultivating talent from within. Are moving to increased "hoteling" experience to increase "teamwork". Don't know about you, but it is not productive to have to find a new desk everyday; to work in an open area with all sorts of distractions and interruptions. Really just a "justification" for cheaper office space.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be inclusive of support services and let them do the job their career field demands. Recognize their contributions. You make mistakes as often as anyone else in your business (yes, we see it and we hear it).

I have been working at Deloitte full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Salary
    - Stability
    - Structure
    - Benefits

I've worked in Deloitte's Federal AERS practice for five years and met some great Partner's.

    Cons

    - Boring work
    - Politics. Those who suck up will move up
    - Long-term engagement

Although I've met great parnters, I've worked with terrible managers. As a CPA, my direct manager was a government major and I didn't learn anything from them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide more recognition to staff level practitioners, make them feel like you can build a career at Deloitte. the expectation for many staff members is that you stay at Deloitte for 2-5 years and then you leave. You'd save alot of money if you invest in your people in the long term.

I worked at Deloitte full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The fringe benefits are very good.

    Cons

Utilization is your worst enemy. I don't know why it is said that this is a great place to work. The layers of red tape between never ending progress reports and trying to keep your job is just too much. Also, it is not easy to switch counselors, when you get a bad one it is really bad.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talent (HR) is not helpful. The entire system should be replaced. Once on the bench, it is really your job to network and find yourself another job. Talent will give you anything anywhere, if it does not work for you too bad.

I worked at Deloitte full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great place to start your career. You get a lot of exposure to clients and different groups, if you are lucky. It looks great on your resume. Federal sector can offer great work and life balance with pretty stable hours.

    Cons

Deloitte Consulting, even the Federal Practice, attributes little value to a non-MBA/MPA type degrees. Advanced degrees are not valued and are significantly under-compensated compared to MBAs (almost doubly so).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get more technical know-how on your teams.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - A lot of online training
    - Seems to be a lot of opportunity for different projects
    - A private entity
    - Gym/fitness subsidy
    - Provide you with an iPhone
    - Paired with a counselor

    Cons

-Unlike at other competitors all of your PTO goes against your utilization, but you can take it all as long as you bill 45 hour work weeks which is the expectation on the federal side
-Roth 401K match of 1.5% is extremely low but the pension kind of subsidizes this to a degree. Still overall retirement package could be higher
-Health benefits are pricier than old employer where there are more monthly out of pocket premiums and the coverage is not as good

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let PTO not affect one's utilization rate, so there is no controversy and then just make it mandatory to bill 45 hour work weeks if that is necessary.

I worked at Deloitte full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Tons of resources at your disposal; true emphasis on work-life balance- core part of the culture - work hard, play hard; very active national level women's initiative; Well-respected Federal Practice allowing for little to no travel in DC-metro area.

    Cons

It is definitely an up-or-out mentality which is not for everyone; It is important to find the right mentors and advocates in leadership, or you can get lost in the mix; Many people wish there was more transparency in the promotion and salary process.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think a bigger/ more formal emphasis on research and publications would create a strong base to launch strategic engagements from and attract additional top-tier talent.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Networking, professional conferencing to discuss real world business solutions, friendly people, travel,

    Cons

No real management structure. Once you roll off a project, no one really cares about you. It's profit driven, so the care about the people is only happens in theory.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build a real superior-subordinate atmosphere, where people can actually use a chain for resolving issues with internal staff as well as clients.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time for more than a year

    Pros

the experience is priceless - several different projects, everyone gets immense responsibilities, there are various types of clients and opportunities in any industry you can imagine (in Deloitte consulting)

in the federal market place hours are not bad, mostly a standard 40-45 hr work week. Mentorship is incredible, and they encourage you to network and find mentors within the firm.

    Cons

The firm expects a lot of you outside of normal work, you must do 400+ hours o f"firm activities" a year, outside of client work. It is usually very pointless like being on silly committees. The firm is also big on basically who is the best at sucking up and getting on high visibility intiatives. ratings are also unfair and on a bell curve.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop asking for more, more, more. Quality over quantity.
