I worked at Deloitte full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of great people working there, and for the most part there is a very collaborative culture.
PTO/benefits package was pretty great (20 days PTO with up to 5 weeks carrying-over).
Depends on experience, but I was not really forced onto any projects I did not want and I was able to pick what opportunities/engagements I wanted to work on.
I was able to find several good mentors within the firm that helped me navigate my career and my away around the company.

    Cons

They do not treat experienced hires well (especially junior staff). Unless you negotiate well, you will be routinely making anywhere from 10% - 25% less than people at your level (including people with less experience).

The amount of time they expect you to put into internal Practice Development work (not including 40 hours of training) is extremely frustrating, given how many of the efforts bring the firm no value and are literally just reduplicating ongoing efforts or something that has been done by firm practitioners in the past.

You are either all-in on Deloitte or you are not. They force the brand on you at all times.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time

    Pros

Great opportunities to work in a variety of industries and for a variety of very smart and driven professionals. Great culture of supporting junior staff growth. Structured teams provided a small company feel.

    Cons

Working in consulting means your work can come in waves and sometimes late nights or weekend work is necessary, so flexibility is very important.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Extremely talented and passionate practitioners, every resource at your disposal, broad opportunities to do whatever you want and make your experience what you want.
Great training and personal growth opportunities available, high level clients that are decision makers.

    Cons

Work life balance is a myth (however that's probably true for most companies like this).
Advancing to manager level and beyond to PPD level is extremely competitive. This isn't necessarily a con. However if you want to do your job and go home this isn't the place for you. Kiss your nights and a good part of your weekends good-bye if you want to succeed at these higher levels.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Own your own career
Great place to start your career

    Cons

    Cut Throat Environment
    Tough environment
    Your work funds overpaid partners
    Low yearly increases
    Extremely long hours
Extreme amount of extra curricular activities required
    Extremely poor work life balance
Not good place to finish your career
Promote not keeping technical due to extreme amount of overhead type work
Independence is horrible (force types of investments you can own)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop setting goals so high so you can actually meet target
Stop with the firm activities and extra stuff
    Allow flexible work schedules

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    1. Name Recognition.
    2. Great training programs.
    3. DU is a beautiful campus.

    Cons

    1. Politics, politics, politics…beware at all times.
    2. No work-life balance…no explanation needed.
    3. If coming in as a Senior Consultant, ensure you have a project PRIOR to starting. Many Senior Consultants come hired onto the bench, which tanks your utilization, and you will be penalized. Senior Consultants are not a hot commodity in the Federal space. It is easier to hire an Analyst or Consultant on a project than a Senior Consultant.
    4. Not easy to switch projects if not a match for your skill set. The manager will pretty much screw you on your review for this.
    5. Not as “client focused” as promoted. More often than not, it is all about the sale of new business than focusing on the task already given. Clients suffer.
    6. Manager -level and above will throw you under the bus to save their own hide. You must play the game well and be-friend the right people to ensure your end of the year review is not affected.
    7. Your vacation is not your vacation. You have to pretty much beg to take off. Also, keep in mind; taking vacation tanks your utilization.
    8. Not as easy to move within the company as promised. One has to actually PROVE themselves qualified in order to move somewhere else. This will require approvals all over the place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a hard look at the management in place. I encourage 360 reviews to be required for every project manager by their project team. That will identify all weak links. Partners are too far removed from everyone to be the advocate and solve problems. As long as the politics out-weigh the experience, turn over will continue to increase. Utilization shouldn’t be required for first year employees. Navigating thought the company is hard enough as is.
