Pros
Strong fraternity of Delphi employees
Very challenging assignments
Excellent global manufacturing system
Ability to grow within the company
Cons
Automotive business dictates the company direction
Senior leadership came from General Motors and lacks knowledge to run an excellent company
Growth seems limited to outside the United States
Advice to Senior Management
Expand outside of automotive more aggressively
Use the same rigor in running the company as was done with the lean manufacturing implementation
Pros
On a personal level, the people at Delphi are some of the best people I have met and are just good, quality human beings.
Cons
There are limited opportunities for growth currently in the company. There also does not appear to be any coherent direction from the senior management as to the strategy of Delphi going forward. Lastly, in the past few years, employees have been treated more as a commodity as opposed to highly valued resources.
Advice to Senior Management
The leadership at Delphi needs to start valuing their employees more. There is also way, way too much bureaucracy at Delphi. Even though headcount has been reduced 30%-40% over the past few years too, the amount of work has not decreased. As a result, morale is extremely among employees.
Pros
Delphi's salaried workforce is extremenly competent and capable. Working on projects is relatively easy due to this competence. Minorities are treated in a fair manner. compensation is very competitive.
Cons
The north american activity is under fire. With GM taking back all the remaining large plants and a minimal number of projects on the bubble with Delphi's mexico plants, the company may end up eliminating most of the NA pressence and focusing on the other global regions where they have more success.
Advice to Senior Management
Rodney was with us when we went down - we need a new leader to save the NA market. Delphi HQ is a minimal value add and a big revenue drain based on their out of tough requirements they impose on the divisions.
Pros
Back in the day, Delphi had some of the best technology development programs in the Automotive industry. Unfortunately, they've been shutting down the development programs to keep the lights on in the factories. Kind of like eating the seed corn.
Cons
Bankrupt Automotive Supplier. Its a drag working in an environment where some of the best talent in the world is being laid off. Other than the general auto industry dolldrums, Delphi is a typical big company with too many layers of management to pass through before a decision can be made.
Advice to Senior Management
Fire that CIO. We could have saved millions over the past 3 years if IT wasn't afraid to adopt new IT tools and products. Linux instead of MS Windows for instance.
Pros
Broad opportunities across the US and globally. Strength of technology ... first or second in most offerings. Strong customer base, recognized as leaders in engineering and manufacturing. Very strong global footprint which opens doors with many customers. Local and regional support for most programs. Most OEMs have confidence in Delphi executing a program on time, on budget, and hitting all performance requirements. When challenges surface, Delphi is well known for jumping on the issue to 1) contain it and 2) to root cause and provide permenant corrective actions. Often Delphi will work with OEMs and suppliers to fix issues that are not Delphi's issue. Customers really appreciate that!
Cons
Hanging on to your job if your supervisor doesn't see your value to the organization.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the best people regardless of seniority. It's not being done well enough today.
Pros
New Auburn Hills Facility CTCM is a very nice place to work.
Cons
In bankruptcy. No pay raises in past 5 years.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop treating employees as resources that are consumed and can be gotten from anywhere.
Pros
It's one of the best and bigger automotive OEM suppliers in the world with enourmous amount of resources and opportunities.
Cons
The salary range is low when compared to Delphi competitors.
Advice to Senior Management
Evolve fast to adapt to economics of the worls and invest in innovative solutions for the customers.
Pros
Great place to flush your career down the toilet.
Cons
Delphi is a worst place to start a career. Performance and growth oriented professionals should stay away from Delphi.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop surrounding yourself with charlatans and give a chance to true leaders that can add value to the progress of the company.
