I worked at Delphi as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Very friendly workplace and helpful in getting started. In addition, there is opportunity for moving up, as I saw a few shifts in management during my time with the company.

    Cons

Delphi has been on somewhat of a downward spiral in the Rochester area, and as such attitudes sometimes lean to the negative side, with poor future outlook for the branch.

I have been working at Delphi

    Pros

The salary and benefits are good despite the economic issues.

    Cons

Does not promote from within company. Found opportunities posted on Glass door and not on internal posting site. Clearly interested in seeking younger employees for less money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be honest with employees and provide guarded information. Especially when things are published in other reputable newspapers.

    Pros

I really liked the engineering that they were doing on Fuel Cells and specifically my work at the site.
    Very helpful team.

    Cons

They didnt seem to put 100% into the work that they did at least 20% of the people seemed to be truely invested in the projects.

I worked at Delphi full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Okay pay, steady work, vacation pay, retirement savings plan

    Cons

No time for life or family. No sick days no breaks. No benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some employees chose to work hard. I think the hard working ones deserve breaks. The ones who are fat and lazy and claim they have worked there for so many years while other people are trying to keep the company in business, get rid of the bums. If Delphi press operators could make and earn rate to take a break , I bet you would get more parts. After so long of busting my chops and seeing who only cares about getting paid and their seniority, I could only take so much. And all the drama that comes with it is not worth the headache. Delphi needs to get rid of the seniority levels and treat everyone equal cause it has gotten to high seniority's fat heads they don't have to work. Employees there get mad if you make more parts than others cause then they have to work. I have dealt with employees being mad at me for blowing them out of the water and supervisors letting it all go. GET RID OF YOUR UNIONS.

    Good place to get experience

Former Employee - Software Verification Engineer in West Lafayette, IN

I worked at Delphi as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

My university was near a Delphi engineering center, so they put a lab in our research park to allow for electrical or computer engineering students to gain experience. I worked in that lab under a more senior engineer on a project. I gained a lot of experience with how projects flow in the automotive world. It also functioned as a sort of internship in the summer, which took a lot of stress off, as I was able to just stay in the same apartment and not have to worry about moving around the country for internships. The pay was also pretty good for a part time job, though a little lower than an internship opportunity would have been.

    Cons

The only issue I can think of is that because the lab I worked in was separate from the lab that the full time employees worked in, there could be a bit of a disconnect. But other than that everything was great.

I have been working at Delphi full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Interesting technology, recent bonuses have been generous, recent domestic hiring, stock done well, Engineers that stuck it out through the worst times are some of the best in the industry

    Cons

Chapter 11 left some scars, management focus on cash flow have paid off in bonuses, stock, and investor confidence, but creates challenges in engineering. Detroit presents challenge to find mature talent and attract young potential talent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a way to protect investment in employees and growth from the need to satisfy investors.
