Delphi Corporation

Senior Program Manager (Current Employee)
Kokomo, IN

I have been working at Delphi full-time for more than 10 years

ProsDecent benefit package, matched time with company, Christmas break, and other holidays off. Great people to work with and technically competent.

ConsWas a great place to work @ one time but management has continued to chase the bottom line. People have left and are not being replaced. The result is vey low morale and a sweat shop type environment. The stress is over whelming and family life does not exist.

"Engineering Manager"

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Delphi for more than 10 years

ProsWorld class training, nice co workers, global presence, mature systems.

ConsCompensation is biased, capped professional growth, moving up in the organization is more a function of whom you know than your competence, learning systems and management is becoming extensively segmented

Advice to Senior ManagementPeople ware, recognize seniority and allow them to take on new challenges that can revamp careers.

– I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Big Ocean in a small boat. Lots of captains and one guy to row.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Delphi full-time

ProsLongevity can happen. 401K match is descent.

ConsManagement Turn-over pushing experienced people out of the way with newer faster models that make a lot of noise, move very fast, make people work faster and then find out they couldn't meet expectations, then blame somebody else Work is buzier. A lot of wheel spinning is the true result. Skipping steps creates potholes. Payscale does not keep up with inflation.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake care of your key people before it's too late!
Figure out who they are and treat them like gold !!

Liked the People

Staff Engineer (Former Employee)
Auburn Hills, MI

I worked at Delphi full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGreat people to work with, lots of expertise

ConsIt acts like a large company, so things are slow at times. Bankruptcy made decision making questionable. Alot of brain drain in 2008 left many holes in the organization.

Once a Powerhouse- Now Spiraling Down

Engineering Development (Former Employee)
Kokomo, IN

I worked at Delphi full-time for more than 10 years

Pros26 years of employment before I had enough and jumped. Pay and benefits were decent. In it's day was an exciting place to work and grow your knowledge. Place you were proud to say you worked. I worked hard to get hired by Delco, worked hard throughout my career as a dedicated employee. NEVER expected to leave Delphi... Didn't realize how bad I despised what Delphi had become.

ConsHigh level management no longer valued people or experience of their senior engineers. Continual rounds of cuts just to make budget so exec's got their bonuses. People overloaded and worked 7 days a week on projects without pay over 40 hours because project managers agree to development schedules that are not achievable because they don't have a clue what work is involved.

Advice to Senior ManagementPut management back in the hands of people that have a clue of engineering and design cycles. Realize it's the people that ultimately make the money. They deserve to be treated as human- not robots that have no life outside of work.

Not So Good Now

Software Engineer (Current Employee)
Troy, MI

I have been working at Delphi full-time for more than 5 years

ProsRespectable pay and benefits. Can be interesting work.

ConsDelphi is no longer customer focused. Instead, its sole focus seems to be on Wall Street with lots of smoke and mirrors so the purse strings are very tight. Very concerned about not having anything really new in the pipeline. The organization has lost a lot of brilliant people over the past few years who no longer wanted to be part of a sinking ship.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on the customer and new technologies - not just Wall Street.
