Pros
Friendly Co-Workers
Experienced Management
Decent Interest in Employees' Well-Being
Aggressive Business Strategy, Risk Taking
Great flight benefits
Hard-working, dedicated employees
Cons
Little interest in changing legacy processes for the better
Redundant layers of management leave little money for individual contributors, leaving the company unnecessarily short-staffed
Too much spin, too few changes for the better in terms of product and operational quality
Headquarters in a mediocre city
Old airplanes that are unpleasant for both employees and customers
Advice to Senior Management
Choosing to retain the legacy Delta headquarters next to Hartsfield Airport in Atlanta was a mistake. Overly practical and obviously cheap, the administrative offices are surrounded by an ugly, run-down neighborhood of fast food restaurants, gas stations and cheap motels. It is hardly the place for one of the world’s largest airlines. Beyond the company’s steel fence that surrounds its campus, the city of Atlanta itself cannot compare to the cleaner, more enlightened atmosphere of the Twin Cities, where one does not have to look at and consider poverty on a daily basis. Note to management: do us all a favor and consider relocating the company back to MSP or to a respectable place like DC, New York or the Pacific Northwest.
Pros
Excellent flight benefits
Very responsive to front line employees
Cons
Good old boy club in senior leadership
Management employees are treated like cattle
HR department is worthless
Advice to Senior Management
Practice what you preach.
Get rid of the old guard good ole boys.
Pros
Nice people, lots of various positions to transfer into.
Cons
Sadly, advancement seems best if you are a "yes" man and are willing to join the good-ole boy club. Management does not generally welcome bottom up feedback or those who have ideas or suggestions.
Advice to Senior Management
Use bottom up feedback more
Pros
Not locked at your desk
Cons
Management is horrible, if you aren't apart of their circle you will have a horrible experience
Advice to Senior Management
Read "who moved my cheese?" along with management classes....
Pros
Flight Benefits, Flight Benefits & Flight Benefits! You and your immediate family can fly anywhere in the world that Delta flies for free!
Cons
Delta was once a company that was known for treating it's employees like family. Since the Delta/Northwest merger, Delta is becoming more and more like Northwest Airlines, a company known for mistreating not only its employees but its customers too. Delta should change their name to Northwest because it seems like Northwest took over Delta!
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to listen to and address the issues of the employees. Instead of telling them what they think the employees want to hear, they need to just be upfront and honest!
Pros
Flight Benefits - Get to see the world
Great People - Very helpful and respectful, tons of employees helping employees, one big family
Cool projects - work with some of the newest technologies
Real Life Applications - Hands on work instead of only working behind a computer screen
Cons
Lower end pay for engineers - enough said
Demanding
Advice to Senior Management
More realistic goals and objectives
Pros
Travel beneifts touted as a big piece of compensation, but loads and seniority system make it often difficult to really use unless you're a Director and can travel confirmed all the time for pleasure.
Cons
Depressed compensation levels versus the industry and non-airline industry
Advice to Senior Management
Improved consistency in HR policy application within and across divisions.
Pros
Delta is a great place to work due to the people and management are honest and trustworthy. The benefits are great and the travel is fun.
Cons
The downside of working for any airline is the roller coaster ride of the aviation industry. As with any managers some are not the best but you have the opportunity to move around.
Advice to Senior Management
Senior management is doing a good job. They have led Delta through rough times and continue to make good progress to return the airline to profitability.
Pros
Unbeatable travel benefits worldwide
Smart and passionate people
Good knowledge sharing
Interesting projects (when available)
Cons
No career guidance
Frequent re-orgs, especially post NWDL merger
Senior management's attitude is that no one is irreplaceable
No life-work balance
Poor pay compared to industry
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to be reminded that if it does not care for its people, they will go elsewhere. Develop a mentor program for new hires and legacy employees looking to move departments. Keep in mind that you can only strech people so far before they break and leave.
Pros
Great atmosphere with low pressure. Travel benefits are excellent. Would recommend to anyone who is young and looking to travel.
Cons
Do not gain any real world experience
Advice to Senior Management
Give your interns real work
