Pros
Family friendly environment, very good benefits, including unusual traditional pension, decent pay. Easy to switch from one area to another laterally or for promotion. Employees generally friendly and welcoming.
Cons
Management style and philosophy vary widely between areas, as do opportunities for professional growth and promotion. Paternalistic environment means lots of deadwood around; employees who are unable or unwilling to do the job yet continued to be carried on the payroll and even promoted. Skilled and knowledgeable staff are often stretched too thin to compensate. Very frustrating to work hard and long while those around you watch the clock. Change happens with the speed of continental drift, if at all.
Advice to Senior Management
Return to more open communication with employees, rather than need-to-know and command-and-control. Get out of you safe enclosure, find out what's REALLY going on, and listen to people. You can't support the company's strategy if it doesn't exist, keeps changing, or you don't know what it is.
Pros
Work life balance is good. Allow working from home. Sensitive towards family. Flexible work timing.
Can talk to senior management.
Cons
Senior management not very decisive. Salary less. No bonuses. Senior management is incompetent and indecisive and technically unsound creating hurdle at work.
Advice to Senior Management
Senior management should be more proactive and decisive. Should offer more job security to people and stop adhoc firing not based on competence.
Pros
the benefits are relatively good
Cons
career advancement is limited, same people keep getting promoted while others remain stagnant
Advice to Senior Management
pay and promotions should be based on merit
Pros
A great place to be if you don't want to do much work but want plenty of time for yourself and your family. For yourself, a lot time to surf andcatch up on the current event, or you can work on improving your skills, though not much is need to stay ahead in a company like Denta Dental. As for your family they'll get pretty good health care coverage in case of illness, but since you can spend a lot of time taking care of them, you will all be very healthy and enjoy a long and happy life. It also seems this will be a good place to plan for your retirement.
Cons
The company is laying off their own people in round after round steady fashion, and giving out the work to third party consulting companies; a great vote of confidence to their own employees and a moral booster.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep paying yourself big bonuses while you still can.
Pros
The benefits package is great, although employees are having to foot a larger portion of the bill.
Benefits vest after 15 years or so; there could be permanent benefits in place after a relatively short period of time. There are many many employees that have spent their entire adult working years at Delta. Time off is generally no problem.
Cons
Poor senior management. Monotony. Communication was very difficult because there was so much posturing and attempted one-ups manship. Frankly, it was embarrassing and a huge waste of time ... up to 50% of time spent calculating what was the best angle instead of working. The louder you spoke, the more important your statement. Or, so it is believed at Delta.
Advice to Senior Management
Provide honest feedback. Try to be less condescending. Treat people with respect - everyone is deserving. Trying being more real instead of artificial.
