I have been working at Delta Dental Plan

    Pros

Stable company with good feedback from customers. Customer focused, good products

    Cons

questionable upper management styles with little care for consideration to employees and their training. Very top heavy with too many levels of managers, directors, V.P.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

layoffs of staff and working leaner is not effective when the main focus is to the customer

I have been working at Delta Dental Plan full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Health benefits are great. This is the only pros I can think off.

    Cons

There's just so many things wrong with this company since company president Gary Radine took over. Bad office politics and redtape is rampant. Delta management don't treat their employees right. They pretty good though in POWER TRIPPING. They instill fear in you and create a toxic atmosphere to work in. They off the bat tell you who's the boss and who's the follower. Very employee unfriendly to say. Real sad!!

Cronyism is a norm in this company. You don't have the chance to get promoted unless you know someone from the inside. It's who you know will get you ahead. Even though if you are highly qualified you are not a promotion material unless you are a friend to a manager or supervisor. Forget about promotion or lateral move because all openings are in Georgia or Pennsylvania. Salary goes up 1 to 2% a year which doesn't keep up with the inflation. This company has one of the lowest salary in America.

Delta has laid-off more than 500 employees since the crash of 2008. This company treats their employees as "dime a dozen". You are easily replaceable. Company loyalty is missing. Management don't care about their employees. It's all about numbers. All they care about is their bonus to the expense of the people working under them. They run us to the ground and they won't even thank us for our hard work. Management are NOT TRAINED people skills which is very sad. They lack the personality to work in peace with their staff and what's really upsetting is they think they are God's give to mankind. You have to tip-toe around them or else you will be situated and brought to the meeting room to be lectured like a little kid. They sure love to harass their employees. They're very good in making up things to get you in trouble.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This company needs a management over haul starting from the top. It's too broken to fix to tell you the truth. Gary Radine can go and bring his puppets along with him. They run this company to the ground within a 12 year period. It has to stop now.

Great company. Management is dull and subpar with a one track attitude. Many employees under appreciated.

I worked at Delta Dental Plan full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

You don't find many companies like this anymore. With 4-5,000 employees in California, Pennsylvania and Georgia, Delta Dental is big enough to offer legacy benefits like every major holiday off, lots of vacation and sick time (you have to build it up, it's not instant, but if you are wise, you can get to almost a month off every year within a few years of working there), a 401K plan and major medical like no one else offers these days. It's steady work, and many people had worked there for decades.

    Cons

Over the last 10 years, the CEO and CIO have tried to make Delta competitive, which, unfortunately, means cutting staff and reducing benefits and perks. Salaried staff and management are expected to work long hours, often 10-12 days, and many executives are so old school that they cannot understand people working remotely and are not open to suggestions for change. It truly is a good old boys club, and who you know and who likes you is the most important thing to longevity. I saw many good workers and managers get let go before I left myself, which destroys any hope of loyalty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company is small enough to be nimble, but you lumber along like a 100,000 worker employer. The Boomers who are stuck at their job due to the recession are hindering growth of your mid-level workers, and along with that, any chance of innovation internally. Offer retirement packages to cut a layer off the top and watch the explosive growth that will happen.

I worked at Delta Dental Plan full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule and great co-workers in customer service.

    Cons

Managers are high paid with very little productivity and rank and file does all the work. A real class divide. Not a lot of opportunity to move up since most managers have worked there for 20 plus years and culture stays the same. CEO shows favoritism. Need to be a Yes person to get a promotion. Cliquish atmosphere and behind the back politics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Retire!

I have been working at Delta Dental Plan

    Pros

Fair pay, good benefits, CEO and management have a good sense for the changing winds in dental insurance

    Cons

Dysfunctional top down management style with significant power distance and poor communication. The CEO provides incredible ambition without regard to how work is actually done throughout the organization. The result, overburdened staff, poor moral and tremendous inefficiency.

    Pros

Great benefits, good bonus and raises

    Cons

Management, the isolation of departments. Everyone tries to finger point at everyone else when there are issues. Discrimination everywhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Help employees grow and be part of the solution instead of part of the problem.

I have been working at Delta Dental Plan full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Very good medical and dental benefits, and some really good people working in the trenches.

    Cons

The working environment in I.T. Operations has become very inflexible, i,e, no normal shifts available for salaried employees, no comp time, and work-from-home privileges limited to an elite few. Management routinely ignores major accomplishments by individuals unless in the 'good ole boys' inner circle.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider the human component for a successful business. If you expect your salaried people to be flexible in their capacity to support the business, it needs to be a two-way street - be flexible with them and their family and home lives.
