Pros
Flight Benefits on Delta only.
Working on an active ramp, around aircraft.
Really making a difference in customer travel.
Being a part of the airline industry.
Always treated well by Delta Mainline employees. Great, friendly people!
Cons
Flight Benefits limited to Delta Flights only (part-timers).
No employee ID badge issued (part-timers).
You can feel like a task performer rather than a valued employee.
Lowe wages and minimal hiring requirements catered to some with low aspirations.
Advice to Senior Management
Flight benefits are THE reason to take a ramp job working crazy hours in all climates.
Why skimp? Provide your part-timers with a valid company issued ID, extend full-time employee flight benefits to your part-time work force. Provide a trave-pass department resource that would also allow part-timers to benefit from Interline travel agency deals. Seek ways to reduce employee turnover. It is a difficult industry. Delta is still thriving so thank you for so many good decisions.
Pros
You get some flight benefits associated with Delta Air Lines. It allows you to fly up to 30 days a year. Less paper work than actual Delta employees have.
Cons
Medical option is not subsidies by DGS and their option cost about $500 a month for medical insurance. You don't get any part of profit sharing from Delta, despite in some cases handling the most of some big projects. Communication from DGS management is non-existant.
Pros
A place to get your foot in the door for the Airline industry.
Meet new people.
See and live life from outside the aircraft.
Free flights!
Cons
Terrible pay for how hard you work.
Raises are terrible and infrequent.
Advancement is hard, but available.
Recognition is there from supervisors, but upper management, not so much.
Good benefits, but cost WAY too much
Advice to Senior Management
Give the employees something to work for aside from flight benefits, possibly recognition for all the good things they do and not take credit for the supervisors motivating the employees to do right and get the job done.
Pros
Great flight benefits on Delta Airlines
Cons
Revolving door. Very quick to terminate good people. Not a career. Regional managers are autocratic and incompetent.
Advice to Senior Management
Promote competent people. Don't be so quick to terminate good people.
Pros
It can be a fun job working around airplanes and constantly meeting new people. If you get some time off the flight benifits are great and come in handy. :)
Cons
Working around airplanes can be dangerous and the pay definitely doesn't compensate for this. Also Delta Global Services (DGS) doesn't supply the staffing to handle what is required so you will work very shorthanded on a regular basis. Upper management seems to be disconnected and doesn't seem to know anything about what goes on and what employees need to do there job.
Advice to Senior Management
Value your employees a lot more. DGS employees bend over backwards more than they should to overcome being shorthanded and having more work in a small amount of time to be completed than could possibly be handled. You get way more productivity from employees than you are paying for so atleast show appreciation for this.
Pros
The flight benefits can be nice, provided you get some days off and the flights have enough open seats. The contracts I've worked overall were pretty good at not making work for people during their down time
Cons
Working on the ramp is physically demanding, and the pay does not reflect this. Nor does it reflect the fact that working around airplanes can be hazardous. With such a low hourly wage you can't afford the health insurance they offer if you are single. Management is not typically stocked with leaders. Many managers take the "if I'm not telling you you're not doing your job, then I'm not doing my job" approach.
Advice to Senior Management
The company is clearly not interested in employee retention. This directly leads to problems at stations. If you want less slide deployments and a/c damage, give people incentives to stick around more than a few months.
Pros
flight privilages, working around aircraft
Cons
running the stations on no staff to maximize profit, flights were leaving full and we kept loosing hours and help.
Advice to Senior Management
if your going to run it on nothing atleast pay a little better to the ones you abuse
