Cons
Lack of advancement oppurtunities for women and minorities.
Advice to Senior Management
Embrace Diversity. See what works in the IT industry.
Pros
Field work results in independent work styles and ability to set my own priority's. Upper level support is excellent and resources are always available with an open door common goal approach to any problem. The size of our company makes it easy to cross paths on a weekly basis with many of the key players.
Cons
New products developed and distributed with out real world critique and feedback from actual targeted users. Developers write programs that are either totally useless to the general user or they are so broad based you end up modifying each one to fit the departmental needs. Working exclusively for an airline as their IT provider is not self sustaining due to the volatility of the industry.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to the people that actually do the work before investing in plans due to there marketing or aggressive sales staff. Avoid staying with the same platform because that's what we already use. When you have an IT department in place, it never makes sense to farm out work to other vendors that your people could do them selves. (IE.. MOS printers, bag scanners and time clocks)
