    lack of authority or resources

    Architect (Current Employee) Shoreview, MN

ProsThe company is successfully changing its business model; compensation is high; there is work-life balance; employees are supportive and friendly.

ConsIt appears that company cuts corners on all expenses except for compensation. High compensation attracts people to positions for which they are overqualified. That in combination with lack of adequate resources or authority leads to job dissatisfaction.

Advice to Senior ManagementRevisit the job, compensation, and decision-making mechanizm

Technology company managed as a manufacturing company

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsMany great people to work with. Good company culture. The benefits are on the better end of the spectrum.

ConsThey say they are a technology company and cutting edge, but the technology is behind compared to other companies they want to compare themselves with.
The company has been managing the shrinking revenue by cutting costs wherever they can.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry and figure out what kind of company you want to be and manage appropriately. If you want to be a technology company, manage to that. If you want to be a manufacturing company, manage to that.

Old school management style but very loyal long term employees

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsBig corporation and the culture to match. Profitable and growing. Good benefits, treat most people well. Many employees have 20 years of service or more. Good work life balance. Active in the community and very charitable.

ConsVery command and control style of management. Not investing enough in new media and digital technology and products. Checks are a dying business. Very poor at integrating acquired companies and new employees. High first year turnover and dissatisfaction.

Advice to Senior ManagementConduct more surveys of employees and act on the feedback provided. Invest appropriately in businesses and their technology that will make the company more successful in the 21st century.

    Great place to work

User Experience Designer (Former Employee) Shoreview, MN

ProsGreat co workers, and jobs. Flexible scheduling and remote working options make aspects of this job ideal.

Consreally bad corporate atmosphere, you are stuck in an anonymous cube, surrounded by whispers all day and that might be the only interaction with a co worker. Not always clear what the chain of communication should be and there is a serious inter departmental inflexibility which impedes efficient production.

Advice to Senior Managementeliminate the cubes, and re organize departments into better groups.

    The deluxe Experience

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Groton, MA

ProsGreat People who have been with the Company over 15 years on Average. Company seems to have plans for growth and is getting more competitive. Variety of products and services. Steady - reliable work. Decent benefits.

ConsIf you are trying to make a lot of money look elsewhere. For what this company espouses as leading edge technology, the proprietary software is ancient and outdated crashing frequently and making manual transactions necessary, totally unacceptable. Lot's of training information available but certain members of the training staff are an embarrassment and unprofessional.

Advice to Senior ManagementTime to review training personnel. Update computer systems / software...PLEASE. How about a cost of living raise?

Time to get serious about the problems

Product Development (Former Employee) Shoreview, MN

    Pros-Some hard-working, smart, co-workers
    - Pay range is higher than at comparable positions with other companies

ConsThe corporate culture values inclusion, consensus and relationships above all. The result is an overload of meetings with scores of people involved in making even minor decisions. Those who speak truth to power do so at their own peril. If you are able to compliment the Emperor on his new clothes and focus on building strong relationships with upper management, rather than focusing on achieving the true growth and change that is needed to turn this company around, you will be personally successful.

Advice to Senior ManagementCreate an environment that rewards and encourages negative thinking and dissent that identifies problems that need to be fixed. By marginalizing those who point out problems, you have created an environment where people aren't willing to say the critical things that need to be said because of the repercussions.

    Typical call center experience

    Cmr (Former Employee) Shoreview, MN

ProsDeluxe is a well run organization that is working on transforming it's business from just checks to services for it's small business customer base.

ConsIn the call center, you are just a piece of meat to answer the phone. You are monitored from the moment you walk in the door to when you access your telephone to when you take your first call. Everything you do is monitored. You are given daily, weekly and monthly reports on all of your measurable activities. High turnover rate from people that are fired, quit or just never show up again.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake more advantage of your call center employees instead of just using them.

    Great with work life balance

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsDeluxe does a great job of partnering for education, work life balance and communicating overall goals. Deluxe continues to look for ways to be relevant.

ConsIn the ever changing market, Deluxe continues to look for ways to be relevant which can also cause some concern over future state of the business.

Avoid this company.......This is a company that is cost cutting itself out of business

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood benefits and compensation levels. 401K plan is average. Core employees have above average competency .

ConsManagement acquires good companies and quickly destroys them. Style of management is completely top down and pure military command and control. Cost cutting, off-shoring, outsourcing is quickly destroying this company. Finger pointing in all directions is a regular daily affair.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep your hands off your acquisitions. Stick to checks and various trinkets. Growth is not something you understand or comprehend.
