    Pros

Could have been good, but micro-managed on little details (number of calls) and missing the point on the big details (closing down)

    Cons

Hired an entire group of people, knowing they were going to buy another company that had a stronger Digital footprint, only to lay off those same people: is anyone planning this or is this just poor decision-making.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take your hands out of your pockets and do some thinking, planning and talking: the only thing separating you from the competition is how you treat employees so wise up! May your children have the same type type of treatment in their careers. Think about it!

    Pros

    Decent salary and benefits.
Great people, those that are left anyway, on the front line.

    Cons

Cost save goals driving the bus
Beware the revenue numbers.....moving discounted $ from FS to commissioned retail $ in SB
Intense focus on ST deliverables for current quarter vs LT
Morale terrible. Browbeaten employees clinging to their jobs, forced to blindly follow inept mgmt

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have the helm of a company with low morale and a culture of mistrust. This behavior has flowed downhill from the top. Corporate shared values should be for all employees, not just those below a certain level.

    Pros

Great Co-Workers, benefits, and hours. Opportunities for advancement in a diverse group of areas. Volunteering is encouraged.

    Cons

Changes all the time, unrealistic sales goals for some departments, favoritism between management and select employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The CEO could benefit from going on Undercover Boss. When some managers treat employees as third class citizens and are rewarded for the success of their team in spite of the mangers lack of leadership skills. Threatening employees during weekly meetings that their jobs can be gone any day as it was done in another site, is not a motivator. Several co-workers were looking for jobs elsewhere where they felt that their work was valued. Remember that your customers are your boss, and not the company. Customers left because they wanted to work with certain reps but were told that they could no longer do so. Managers were out of touch with their customer base when they stated that it would not affect the relationship with Deluxe, yet several customers went elsewhere where they could decide who they wanted to work with. Sales is about rapport, and the customer is right when it comes to who they want to work with.

    Pros

The company is successfully changing its business model; compensation is high; there is work-life balance; employees are supportive and friendly.

    Cons

It appears that company cuts corners on all expenses except for compensation. High compensation attracts people to positions for which they are overqualified. That in combination with lack of adequate resources or authority leads to job dissatisfaction.

Revisit the job, compensation, and decision-making mechanizm

    Pros

Many great people to work with. Good company culture. The benefits are on the better end of the spectrum.

    Cons

They say they are a technology company and cutting edge, but the technology is behind compared to other companies they want to compare themselves with.
The company has been managing the shrinking revenue by cutting costs wherever they can.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try and figure out what kind of company you want to be and manage appropriately. If you want to be a technology company, manage to that. If you want to be a manufacturing company, manage to that.

    Pros

Big corporation and the culture to match. Profitable and growing. Good benefits, treat most people well. Many employees have 20 years of service or more. Good work life balance. Active in the community and very charitable.

    Cons

Very command and control style of management. Not investing enough in new media and digital technology and products. Checks are a dying business. Very poor at integrating acquired companies and new employees. High first year turnover and dissatisfaction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Conduct more surveys of employees and act on the feedback provided. Invest appropriately in businesses and their technology that will make the company more successful in the 21st century.

    Pros

Great co workers, and jobs. Flexible scheduling and remote working options make aspects of this job ideal.

    Cons

really bad corporate atmosphere, you are stuck in an anonymous cube, surrounded by whispers all day and that might be the only interaction with a co worker. Not always clear what the chain of communication should be and there is a serious inter departmental inflexibility which impedes efficient production.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

eliminate the cubes, and re organize departments into better groups.

    Pros

Great People who have been with the Company over 15 years on Average. Company seems to have plans for growth and is getting more competitive. Variety of products and services. Steady - reliable work. Decent benefits.

    Cons

If you are trying to make a lot of money look elsewhere. For what this company espouses as leading edge technology, the proprietary software is ancient and outdated crashing frequently and making manual transactions necessary, totally unacceptable. Lot's of training information available but certain members of the training staff are an embarrassment and unprofessional.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Time to review training personnel. Update computer systems / software...PLEASE. How about a cost of living raise?

Time to get serious about the problems

Former Employee - Product Development in Shoreview, MN

    Pros

    -Some hard-working, smart, co-workers
    - Pay range is higher than at comparable positions with other companies

    Cons

The corporate culture values inclusion, consensus and relationships above all. The result is an overload of meetings with scores of people involved in making even minor decisions. Those who speak truth to power do so at their own peril. If you are able to compliment the Emperor on his new clothes and focus on building strong relationships with upper management, rather than focusing on achieving the true growth and change that is needed to turn this company around, you will be personally successful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create an environment that rewards and encourages negative thinking and dissent that identifies problems that need to be fixed. By marginalizing those who point out problems, you have created an environment where people aren't willing to say the critical things that need to be said because of the repercussions.
