I have been working at Demand Media full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working with a team who are energized to make an impact. I love the passion everyone on my team has. We have a lot of new employees - nice to work side-by-side with so many smart people!

    Cons

People on the outside looking in have many perceived perceptions of Demand Media based on historical data. New mgt, new team... new beginnings.

    Pros

Flexibility and telecommuting have been great, as have the twice-weekly payments.

    Cons

Work has dried up so it's no longer a reliable source of income. Communication has suffered some with its online format. Still, I'll miss it.

    Advice to Management

As things change, think outside the box for ways to recruit and employ existing freelancers, many of whom have decades of real-world experience. Shiny and new isn't always better.

    Pros

It's great to be surrounded by dedicated, hard-working, innovative individuals to motivate yourself to be equally as strong. A true collaborative environment where employees are encouraged to share ideas. Company provides lot of perks: never a shortage of food or drink, weekly happy hours, pet-friendly environment. Compensation and benefits are competitive.

    Cons

A lot of changes within the organization.... people leaving and people being hired. Not really a con, as this would be expected with new management. But let's hope the dust settles soon.

    Advice to Management

    Transparency and Communication is key.

I worked at Demand Media full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great place with lots of room to grow and move up in your career. People there tend to be extremely nice and friendly.

    Cons

Can be stressful at times, but that's the nature of the beast. Definitely not unique to Demand Media. All an all great place to be

I worked at Demand Media full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Striving for more traffic was always at the core of the ethos. Growth and innovation were very important, but the growth slowed and ideas seemed to slow at the same rate. Careful is fine, but won't bring break-out growth.

    Cons

Lots of good, very smart people have moved on to more exciting companies interested in growing to allow them to continue to learn and innovate.

    Advice to Management

Take some new risks and use the data to innovate, not just tweak and tune endlessly.

I have been working at Demand Media full-time

    Pros

You can bring your dog to work, Free lunch on Fridays, great working with some talented employees (what's left of them) , & company is located in Santa Monica

    Cons

Like the late and great Amy Winehouse said, NO, NO, NO...to any good reviews. So If you are going to believe any review written by a new employee you are setting yourself to be extremely disappointed my friend. Like past reviews have stated, hr is still unorganized, there is no clear direction on where the company is going and if you ask anyone they might think that the CEO is really a ground hog because he never comes out his hole. And when he does it's never a good thing. Since the acquisition of Saatchi the culture has went downhill. And if you ever need to know how to tell the difference between a Saatchi employee and a Demand Employee is that Demand Employees actually speaks to you. Too many layoffs so everyone is on pins and needles. Everyone that made it pleasant to work here is now gone and we know more will follow. Too many Cons to list so if you are thinking about working here RUN! RUN as fast as you can

    Advice to Management

Not sure who is running the company anymore or the direction. Don't be surprised that the moral has gone downhill when the CEO tells employees that you can leave the company rather than to continue to make it pleasant to work at dm. And btw bringing in puppies and pink berry isn't going to make the problems go away

    Pros

The company feeds their employees weekly on Fridays and makes any excuse to have a social occasion in order to spend money and not work.

    Cons

Some staff have passed their prime with the passion of the company and make their own hours should leave or be let go. Disorganized HR/People Organization department. Too many "Chiefs" and not enough "Indians" in several departments and groups in order to get things done.

    Advice to Management

Hire educated Senior Executives that are actually qualified in their designated fields and not "friends" of the CEO...

    Nice Company to Work for

I have been working at Demand Media (More than 8 years)

    Pros

This company is very considerate of its freelancers, provides as much work as you can handle in certain categories, and pays promptly twice a week.

    Cons

Sometimes things slow down and there's little or nothing to do. However, it usually picks up again. There's ample notice before this happens though. Once you're aware, you can look for something else to do. It's advisable to not rely on one source of income as a freelancer anyway.

    Advice to Management

    None. Or maybe, more articles.
