I have been working at Denison University full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Denison is truly a community. People are very friendly and easy to work with. Benefits are good and there is a generous 403b match too. Senior leadership is very good and the schools is in very good shape financially, with a very healthy endowment. Dedicated faculty. I'll echo some thoughts posted by another reviewer: The ability to be a professional without being micromanaged. A fairly relaxed working environment that easily allows for your personal needs as long as professional expectations are being met. An impressively connected and accomplished alumni body. Free and indoor parking.

    Cons

Limited opportunities for advancement. While not too far from Columbus, the area around campus is rural. Students don't always know how good they have it here.

I have been working at Denison University

    Pros

Working at the Denison museum affords students multiple opportunities to work hands on with art works of all different mediums from all around the world. The staff is extremely personable and the hours are flexible

    Cons

Never many visitors. The pay is low but for what the work is, it's understandable. The only real con is that it can be boring. A lot of the time you will feel you have been assigned busy work

    Great Place to work

I worked at Denison University full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The University has some really great motivated students. They do their readings and come prepared to class. Class sizes are small and more time for one on one interaction with students

    Cons

While most students are good, there are a few that feel entitled and expect you to cater to their every whim. However, the percentage of such students is small in any class. So, that's ok I guess

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nothing really. You guys are doing a great job!!

I have been working at Denison University part-time

    Pros

There are a lot of options for jobs, apply for a lot and you'll find something you like.
Approach people in areas where you think you may want to have a career and ask if they're hiring and they may contact you later!

    Cons

Though there are many jobs available, it may be difficult to find one at first. You have to keep searching and maybe start out in a job that has fewer hours per week.

I have been working at Denison University full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The intellectual, social, and intentional vibe of the campus culture. The heartfelt dedication of the faculty. A solid senior staff and board of trustees. The ability to be a professional without being micromanaged. A fairly relaxed working environment that easily allows for your personal needs as long as professional expectations are being met. An impressively connected and accomplished alumni body. Free and indoor parking.

    Cons

The occasional conflicting/vague messages or priorities. The lack of a clear institutional identity or operational strategy. A "country club" treatment of students (who don't always appreciate what they have) -- although that's increasingly necessary for competitiveness.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You certainly can't please everyone all the time, but at some point you have to choose who matters most. When you do, be direct in your communications with them and everyone else.
