I worked at Dennis Publishing as a contractor for more than a year
Pros – Pros – Good opportunities, as organization lacks smart people that act strategically.
Great atmosphere & people, it's a pleasure to work there.
Cons – Cons – everything is done on a budget so the end work looks cheap and mediocre.
Many people playing experts, while in fact their knowledge is below average.
Too much talking and directions from people clueless about the area of expertise that ends up with wrong decisions and slow progress.
Advice to Senior Management – Sending Management on various short courses made managers feel they are now experts, while in fact they are not. Experts study subjects for years and have many years of practice, you can't become an expert in a week! Getting senior specialists freelancers to guide management for a few months every now and again would improve their skills leading to better decisions. Also if management stop making decisions against what experts say would improve the outcomes.

Pros – A relaxed atmosphere makes coming into work each morning a genuine pleasure, and with minimal office politics you can feel sure it's a meritocracy. There's also a real passion about the work everyone does.
Cons – As a small-to-medium sized company it can sometimes feel that things are done on the cheap and without due consideration.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to the people on the ground floor (not literally).
