    I worked at Denny's full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Customers are great, well mine were! Fellow management worked together as a team. Pay was good, but they don't start you out good if you're an outsider unless you come with a lot of experience

    Cons

Quality of life is POOR! I imagine that's any 24/7 restaurant business but there's just no appreciate for all the sacrifices you make to be there. No reward from being away from your family, yes its amazing to pay your bills and be ahead in life but, when you work every wkend every holiday 55+hrs a week its not worth what you miss with the ones you love

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be better to your people, have incentives for long term employees, like one wkend off a month, or a small holiday off. KNOW WHO YOU ARE SELLING your restaurants too...we were led to believe we were being sold to a gentleman named Anil who was this "amazing" big franchisee, so we had faith in who was taking over and turned out he was only a "name" that in fact his "partners" (who are IT guys) are the ones who actually owned us. Not saying there is anything wrong with them as I don't know them, but be honest in your business and better to your people!

I have been working at Denny's

    Pros

Their open door policy is good. You actually have access to upper management. I have learned how to be a stand alone manager and take whatever comes in the door. Denny's is known for being unpredictable and they have taught me how to think on my feet.

    Cons

It's a juggling act. As a franchise store which is also low volume our budgets are small. I do alot of dishes and cleaning under sinks. The POS system is slow and has a lot of issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The POS systems are in need of an update. They are run outdated software and crash. We need a separate budget allowed for our training labor. We cannot get the new employees through all of the computer training they are supposed to have all while meeting our labor budget.

I have been working at Denny's full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

You see anything and everything. Lots of new experiences. Lots of good people.

    Cons

No appreciation for any level of staff by the franchisees. Some benefits but not all. Pay is not enough.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate who you have - quit losing good people. Invest in them. Properly train all job codes. When you offer vacation time, don't get upset when someone actually wants to use it.
