    Sexism is rife - dont be a smart female expecting to succeed

    Research and Development (Former Employee)

    ProsMost folks at HQ are good to work with.
    Basic collaboration and willingness to get the job done among bench-level folks.
    Salaries and benefits quite competitive.

    ConsLeadership is composed of men... only a handful of females in upper management, and even then, they report to men...
    Old boys network who look to make themselves richer while ignoring those that have to put in the hours and get the job done.
    No pipeline at all, only me-too products with no benefits over existing products.
    Back-stabbing and bullying from certain heads of department make the culture intimidating to promote any collaborative discussions and decision making in a team setting. Especially if you're an intelligent female who has succeeded elsewhere and are trying to implement your successes here.
    Do not follow their procedures or have systems that are robust. Lazy heads of departments who just want to collect a pay check.

    Advice to Senior ManagementPay attention to the folks that actually do the work. Listen to their ideas.
    Nepotism has never been a useful tool in inspiring collaboration and team work, so stop doing it now.
    How about recruiting some women in to senior management?
    Dont reward those that constantly bully others and behave inappropriately - have a forum for employees to be able to report this, and have the issues confronted.

    OK

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Menlo Park, CA

    ProsGood communication at the hands-on and low/middle management levels make it a friendly place to work. Depomed has some very talented people even if they aren't always recognized.

    ConsUpper management didn't seem to care what the employees actually did. They were just the hands that let management make announcements to business investors.

    Advice to Senior ManagementGive a little personal attention to your employees to keep them motivated.

    Outstanding experience at this company wearing many hats in Senior position

    Senior Management (Current Employee) Menlo Park, CA

    ProsHigh growth, dynamic atmosphere. Very exciting, never boring. Lot's of challenges and rewards.

    ConsNot profitable yet, so still boot-strapping as much as possible.

    Advice to Senior ManagementGet profitable.

    Flex Sales Rep

    Flex Sales (Current Employee)

    ProsGood product offering with Gralise but Zipsor is just another me too.

    ConsPoor Managent and no clear sales direction. If ram my own business with the same lack of direction I would be bankrupt.

    Advice to Senior ManagementA culture of fear to drive performance will never get the best performance from your employees.

    Management out of touch with primary care market

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    ProsGood products but few indications that primary care can write for.

    ConsFear based employment is not the way to succeed. they want you to sell off label to make the numbers and even commit Medicare fraud with their copay card.

    Advice to Senior ManagementThe revolving door needs to stop! Support your employees instead of putting their careers in jeopordy. PIP on employees but management needs to be on a performance improvement plan!

    Company with potential, but senior management seems out of touch.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Menlo Park, CA

    ProsSome great people.
    Products and technology worth supporting.
    Good pipeline for small company.
    Good mid-Bay Area location. Moving in December 2012 to a very nice, newly renovated space in the PRC in Newark.

    ConsSenior management, especially the CEO, appears to be out of touch with the organization as a whole. Morale is low and there is much complaining among the ranks. Several good people have recently left or are looking to leave.

    Advice to Senior ManagementAt such a small company the CEO should be more accessible to people beyond his direct reports. And HR should be lead by someone who is truly interested in making sure the work environment is good and that people feel like they are heard.

    Salaries should have been more competitive with the market

    Analytical Chemist (Former Employee) Menlo Park, CA

    ProsIt is a small company where you can establish relationships with most people at the company. Since many of the processes are not set in place, it is a great opportunity to implement fresh ideas.

    ConsThe salaries at the bottom level are not that competitive. It is hard to bring about improvements within departments with the management in place.

    Advice to Senior ManagementReward the people who do a great job at the bottom since these are the people who bring results to the company.

    No growth or development = no motivation

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Menlo Park, CA

    Pros- Support work life balance.
    - Some really great people.
    - Salary is competitive.

    Cons- Lack of accountability throughout organization.
    - Promotions not justified.
    - Performance review process needs improvement. No metrics or peer reviews.
    - Lacks adequate program for personnel training and development.
    - New personnel suggest fresh and efficient ideas for improvement but are immediately confronted with road blocks due to long time staff who are intimidated and reluctant to change.

    Advice to Senior ManagementFix the performance review process so that employees are properly rewarded for their accomplishments.

    If you don't care for politics, then don't work for this company

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Menlo Park, CA

    Pros-people at the bench level are pleasant to work with.
    -people at the lower level are technical and knowledgable

    Cons-collusion between people in upper management designed to undermine others efforts;

    -lack of accountability, responsibility by upper management "Lead by Consensus" philosophy;

    -decision making is done by consensus. If you disagree with the consensus (2-3 people in upper management) you are labeled a "problem";

    -management approach is to take the shortest, highest risk route rather than the "right" approach. Often make decisions predicated on time lines rather than "correct/industry standard"" or "ethical" approach;

    --promotions through Nepotism

    Advice to Senior ManagementFoster a culture of diversity in opinion & experience rather than going with the corporate "Bobble Heads"

    No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
