    Pros

    - Highly entrepreneurial - Challenging/interesting work - Good salary and benefits

    Cons

    - Highly political environment: pick mentor(s) who are well-regarded and know their way around the organization - Highly bureaucratic environment: need to go through a lot of hoops to get things done/approved; only gotten worse with onset of external regulatory forces (a lot tougher to get things done) - Sharp elbows among colleagues: at the end of the day, everyone is out for themselves and wanting to maximize their comp at year-end. (I should note that the above all all pretty common to most, if not all, investment banks)

    Pros

    - Autonomy to run with ideas - Broad resources - Easy access to customers - Collegiate environment - Given rope to take projects as far as you can

    Cons

    - Cuts are brutal - Actively shrinking coverage - On the forefront of re-aligning comp to be shareholder friendly - Year end review process completely meaningless and an enormous waste of time

    Advice to Management

    - Figure out and stick with a strategy - Communicate - Encourage working across groups, divisions through real fee sharing

    Pros

Somewhat better work/life balance than NYC analysts. Technically better pay than NYC analysts, when adjusting for a much lower cost of living in FL.

    Cons

Lower overall pay/bonus than NYC, feel like back office workers even though we're part of the investment bank. Feels like no future for career advancement. Little/no pay differentiation based on group productivity or amount of hours worked. Lack of passion/drive to succeed in some co-workers. Local management is very cliquey/shows favoritism to certain groups.

    Pros

DB is based in London Wall, so that is a better location for some, than canary wharf. You may do well in DB if you are a politician.

    Cons

Bonus system is not merit based, rather based on who you know. When I was there, I travelled to Frankfurt and did not get reimbursed travel expenses (flights, hotel) which proved expensive for me. When you want to move up, you have to move on, unless you are in with the right crowd. All in all, a rather unfriendly, officious and political place where you have to watch your back at all times. I was in IT, maybe it's ok if you are a trader.

    Advice to Management

treating staff with respect costs nothing and creates loyalty to the company. To do that you have to know your staff, and reward based on merit.

    Pros

Work from home Good working hours Friendly people (at least in Global Technology)

    Cons

HR does not build relationships with people Lack of communication and transparency Senior management and the bank as a whole not upholding to the agreed terms Low pay compared to the tech industry or other banks Career prospects are not very clear at the lower end of the spectrum and career advancement is pretty slow and not performance oriented (i.e. you have to wait in line for a promotion)

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees better, forget about the profits for a little while, invest in people and gain more by retaining them for longer period of times. Also, you should re-balance compensation in favor of internals, rather than externals.
