Pros
They paid up to bring in good talent and they always were bringing in league table topping traders and sales desks.
Cons
Mercenary culture. Everyone came in for the money and they will all leave for $5 more elsewhere. No opportunity for advancement or promotion. Only a stepping stone to the next job. Dead end. Toxic management. Snake pit.
Advice to Senior Management
Get your heads examined. You have created a hell hole to work in and a horrible place with enormous turnover.
Pros
more relaxed corporate culture compared with US firms, people are more eclectic, and less aggressive, great banking name in Europe, powerhouse especially fx and fixed income
Cons
bureaucratic and political at every level, so quite strict and serious corporate culture, in US it might be somewhat different
Advice to Senior Management
allow your people to focus on doing a good job by rewarding good work instead of other less important things
Pros
Good training classes and on the job learning
Cons
Poor bonuses and promotions from within
Advice to Senior Management
Promote from within and pay them market.
Pros
- It can vary but hours are usually fair
- Has still performed well despite the financial crisis
- Decent benefits
- There are some very capable people in the Org.
- Attempts to embrace new ideas
Cons
- Hugely bureaucratic and complex organization to navigate,
- Ineffective processes
- A unpractical IT organization with too many layers
- Far too many Program Managers not nearly enough people who do!
- Outsourcing gone mad!
Advice to Senior Management
Drill down into some of the detail so you can make more informed decisions, don't blindly go down the outsourcing route ... how about your IP. Quality is suffering.
If you want to save money look at the amount of time, employees are spending following impractical process. Surprise yourself!
Pros
You can learn as much as possible "within" the group/department. Great benefit package. Most of my managers have been understanding and handling difficult situations well.
Cons
Had a different manager almost every year hence it is not easy to transfer to a different group.
Pros
big, international, some people are smart
Cons
strong hierarchy, people covering only their ass, difficult to change on internal positions since they are often are already 'given away' (decided who is going to be in this position).
In general poor focus on results and overall success of a company.
Bad or vague goal setting for individual goals.
Advice to Senior Management
take care about people, not only sit in front of the excel crunching some numbers
Pros
The people that work here are very nice and that in itself creates a good culture to be working in
Cons
Sometimes working at a large global bank makes processes and procedures more cumbersome than they may otherwise be which is frustrating
Advice to Senior Management
I think it's just important that management focus on keeping a positive culture at the bank and continue positive career management
Pros
Good place, Good People, Good technologies used.
Cons
Had some slack time when manager didn't know what work to give me.
Advice to Senior Management
Better Work distribution and planning.
Pros
- good work life balance
- interesting mix of backgrounds
- diverse and fruitful tasks
- close collaboration with senior management
Cons
- regularly happens that you spend much longer in the office without compensation
- despite that interaction with senior management is high, it could be extended to client meetings
Advice to Senior Management
Due to the size of the company, top management is only rarely involved with the rest of the employees, therefore management should increase interaction
Pros
Challenging but always encouraging work . . . .
Cons
High pressure, very outcome oriented
Advice to Senior Management
Sustainable
