Pros
Great working environment with interesting people from different backgrounds and culture.
Better than expected work life balance, considering the job nature.
Deutsche bank offers lots of job mobility to its employees
Cons
Work invested into the company often not properly rewarded and recognized by the management.
Salary structure not on par with other countries (especially U.S.) considering that the work load is higher.
Pros
Fair working culture, prompting a great culture of informaiton sharing
Structure of environment, easy to find and to ask for information
In general, people are looking for long term relationship and professional in mind
Industrial leader of process control and internal audit standard
Cons
More conservative approach and slower to accept new technology
Front line businesses are not aggressive enough in Asia, Middle East and EM markets and lost market share to peers
Advice to Senior Management
Utilize its global resource and structural advantages to target Asia, Middle East and EM markets with limited allowance of technology deviation in local footprint to accelerate time to market to lead the market share.
Pros
The company is large and well-respected. They offer great benefits, very generous maternity leave. I felt very well taken-care-of by the company. I never saw any discrimination or unfair treatment of employees. Everyone behaved professionally, in my experience.
Cons
I really don't have any problem with the company itself. The only problems I had were the usual complaints about co-workers and a few managers I'd had over the years. The manager I had when I left the company was terrific, so I can't really complain.
Advice to Senior Management
Please stop forcing people to share cubicles. It's humiliating enough to be stuck in a cubicle, but it's bearable if you have your own space. Even if it's four square feet. Sharing a cubicle is demoralizing.
Pros
They encourage a team approach to work and they have a very strong CSR program
Cons
Long hours for an Intern who was also studying for an MBA
Advice to Senior Management
Perhaps cut down the hours to enable the intern to put more focus on studying.
Pros
If you get a good supporting senior manager stick close to them. They are far and few between.
Cons
Hours. So hard to work with others. Overly technical.Expectations are set too high. Management is management when it should be leadership.
Advice to Senior Management
Wake up.
Pros
True meritocracy - you work hard you get rewarded. Entrepreneurial culture, you get to try and explore. Get risk management tools in place
Cons
Bureaucratic - The NY offices did not quite have the open door policy. Management was not transparent as is the case I would imagine at other investment banks
Pros
Benefits package
CSR
Name
Internal job mobility is promoted
Global presence, opportunities available to work in most key deutsche bank hubs
Cons
Poor senior management - Severe lack of direction, some are promoted not on merit but on who they know.
Worryingly, there are some senior managers, especially in technology who are protected by senior MD's. This "allows" them to behave in any manner they wish, resulting in a bullying culture and some very talented people leaving the bank.
Difficult Promotion process - Although in technology there is a more structured promotion process, the management in charge are not always the right people to make the right decisions. Promotions should be based on meritocracy and the persons ability to work at that level. I agree that a SME that struggles to work with others is a difficult candidate to promote and justifiaby needs to improve this aspect if they are to be promoted.
There are many examples of employees who get promoted based on length of service, surely something any tier 1 investment bank should not do if they are to remain competitive.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employess.
Look after your talent before they leave.
Stop protecting senior\middle management that are obviously not fit for the roles they do
Pros
The pay package is good and out of chaos opportunities can arise.
Cons
A process for everything (usually several duplicate processes) but few effective processes.
Pros
Extremely talented group of bankers
Cons
Not a good work/life balance
Advice to Senior Management
Keep it up.
Pros
Great colleagues, generous maternity and leave policy
Cons
Depending on the division, a fair level of chauvinism, "old boy" networks and some level of derision from Europe
