Pros
Great team environment, positive recognition of good work, challenging work and opportunity to grow / move into new areas, work with people across the globe on a daily basis in which you are able to gain great cultural exposure, overall a very positive experience!
Cons
Communication across the bank is not always consistent, systems could be more user friendly and up to date, sharing knowledge and working across different business areas does not always go smoothly. Probably facing similar problems to other bank/organizations of its size.
Advice to Senior Management
Encourage more open communication across different business areas within the bank, get rid of lotus notes, and work on creating more globally consistent reporting tools.
Pros
Good work life balance, great learning opportunites, intelligent staff, academics, good trading house, strong IB arm, strong corporate responsibility, global bank
Cons
There is never enough compensation for the junior staff at DB, sometimes there is a lack of recognition from senior management`
Advice to Senior Management
When senior management make decisions that will effect teams within the bank, it would be useful for them to get view points of those working within the teams, as it will directly effect them,
Pros
The large and complex environment offers many challenges and opportunities to deploy new technology.
Many excellent colleagues who work well in cross team issues.
Cons
Poor communication is common.
Lack of a shared strategy.
Advice to Senior Management
People will work better if there is less fear and uncertainty regarding their positions.
Pros
good work/life balance
top bank on the street in a number of asset classes
one bank initiative has started to pay off
Cons
no support for juniors
uncompetitive compensation
career advancement and compensation is based on how close you are to top management
Advice to Senior Management
Communication between management and staff needs improvement.
Pros
great work culture is in the bank and there are lots of learning oppurtunitoes.
People are very nice to wrok with and highly cooperative
Cons
A bit owards beurcratic and system driven. good working hours .People are very nice to wrok with and highly cooperative
Advice to Senior Management
great job done
Pros
Training, good management, appreciation for hard work - work with relatively intelligent people - good money and bonuses
Cons
ermm...extremely long hours, got to have a passion to perform and like working hard - like 12-14 hours/day, working past midnight and weekends ....
No life ....your life will revolve around work
Advice to Senior Management
Promote people who exceed customer expectations ...
Pros
Contains a few very smart people
Large business with lots of potential areas to work
Good training and self-development
Good benefits scheme
Cons
Extremely political
Management have contempt for employees
Promotion and remuneration are based on personal relationships with managers
Poor technology and mis-investment in it
A large number of very poor quality people
Extreme amounts of red-tape
Advice to Senior Management
Learn what people actually do in their jobs rather than assuming that you know and then telling employees the solution. Identify and eliminate crony-ism and either introduce a real meritocracy or stop saying that the business is one. Stop throwing money at technology problems; with endless re-architecture programs that never actually go anywhere.
Pros
Good Employee benefits and some very good people to work with.
Cons
Some 80s style mangers and attitudes still prevail in London despite the corporate hype stated.
If you are in Operations, beware of Offshoring your job to subsdiuaries in Birmingham or Bangalore
Advice to Senior Management
Walk the talk when it comes to being a true meritocracy and have the courage to fire senior mangers with 80s attitudes who empire build by favouring those who support them personally rather than those who are best for the Bank at their jobs.
Pros
In the right team and setting, DB is likely a good part to work...still to be proven for me though
Cons
Too political, back-stabbing and anti-meritocratic environment for anyone in their right mind to like and thrive in. Promotion and compensation seems to be more linked to how close you are to top management than any real ability to provide value to the business. Without there are some good and talented people in there, but in my experience their positive contribution was outweighed by the incompetence and ill will too many other. As you can hear I am less than impressed by DB compared to other Int'l banks I have been with.
Advice to Senior Management
Quit
Pros
well-known name, good the resume
Cons
very long hours, increditble bureocrasy, a lot of office politics, very inefficient infrastructure
Advice to Senior Management
to pay more attention to talant retention, invest into efficient IT, streamline organizational and repoting structure
