Pros
Large institution which has all areas of banking and finance, just make sure you are not in the asset management arm.
Cons
Management communication was non-existent with superiour's hording information for their own personal gain. Trading desks were encouraged to not associate with other desks.
Advice to Senior Management
There should be a concerted effort to evaluate managers on at least a yearly basis if there is no communication from the personal to the higher-ups.
Pros
Fexibility, new technology and oportunity to learn
Cons
Burocratic, often centrally controlled in European hub locations stiffels growth and career opportunity in other locations
Advice to Senior Management
no comment
Pros
Room to grow as long as you work hard
Cons
Commuting to Wall Street but at least we are the only ones left!
Pros
Very Structured. Good systems. Constantly looking to improve technology. Emphasis on streamlining.
Cons
Pretty cheap. Offices were not that new and one town hall meeting we were instructed to "curb spending and innovate". Their systems are good though so they have a base.
Pros
Great pay, benefits. If you do your job, they treat you well.
Cons
If you happen to be in an area that is affected by outsourcing (and many of the largest areas were), you should look to work somewhere else. They will not consider strong performers in one area as potentially strong performers in another. Moving around in the company is available to the very few. No matter how well you do in a support function, if "the numbers" don't work for you, you are out. Great to be a stockholder, though. I still have all of my shares. Review process was great financially, terrible professionally (in terms of advancement). They expect you to do your job, and don't consider the fact that you could do something else, something more challenging.
Advice to Senior Management
In my years there, I saw little employee loyalty to the company. Just loyalty to the money. I worked in Global Markets. I went from "you're a star" to "we are now doing this in Bangelore" very quickly. Perhaps more consideration could be given to the human capital at DB.
Pros
Work life balance, global offices
Cons
too big, too complicated, political and run by traders mostly
Advice to Senior Management
Minimize the number of re-organizations, hurts continuity in management style
Pros
Very good work life balance. Management is understanding is very understanding in case you need to work from home or have to come later/leave earlier.
Cons
Information flow is disrupted. Communication among groups is limited and makes working there very frustrating. There is also team spirit missing due to this fact.
Advice to Senior Management
Foster culture and team spirit. It will help communication to flow better and make people more satisfied working in this environment.
Pros
Good hours and the staff is friendly.
Cons
New York City becomes a very miserable city to work in.
Advice to Senior Management
Give a more competitive starting salary for associate positions.
Pros
They have a good 401k match. Global company.
Cons
Don't promote from within. Hard to change businesses. Certain businesses get most of the respect and attention of management the rest get talk but no action. Very ridged and segmented structure.
Pros
The atmosphere is fun at times. People work hard here.
Cons
There is so much favoritism that goes on...it makes this place a joke. If you are in good with certain people, then you will do well...if not, you're on your own. Very little support from senior management...it's almost a sink or swim attitude.
