Pros
Deutsche Bank provides excellent opportunities for professional growth based upon the opportunities presented from very early on. Employees have the opportunity to prove themselves from very early on and take on a wide remit of work.
Cons
In terms of career advancement and financial rewards for the level of work performed, this has not been entirely satisfactory. It seems, as in most companies, the number of years of experience is given precedence over the level / complexity of work managed and projects successfully delivered.
Advice to Senior Management
As a recommendation to senior management, more emphasis should be placed on the build-up of new talents within the organization as well as more transparency around business lines' strategies.
Pros
Flexible work hours
externals are ok
Cons
Poor Management
There is no reputation for your hardwork
Biased treatment between internals and externals
Team work between different groups is ???
Advice to Senior Management
Please respect externals . ,
Pros
higher than market compensation compared to other firms on the street. Ability to get a lot of exposure and have a lot of responsibility.
Cons
Inadequate senior management that typically jockeys for position more than focusing on running a successful business stifles growth.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus more on employee retention and employee growth and satisfaction. Waste less time kissing up to superiors and more actually adding value.
Pros
* well respected on street
* fair compensation system
* excellent analyst training
Cons
* revolving door of senior management since financial crisis
* awful technology / systems development
Advice to Senior Management
make a serious commitment towards business planning and development.. seems to be a very spur of the moment last minute planning type of place
Pros
A large population of employees some of whom have a wealth of experience and have been with the bank for a long period as well as plenty of young and dynamic people with fresh ideas. Because it is an international bank that services clients in Europe and Latin America, its employees reflect that ethnic diversity. It is also pretty easy to make connections with others in different groups and departments, which makes learning about the bank and new opportunities much easier.
Cons
My team was a fairly new one so there was a lack of existing infrastructure for its management and development. Because of that, the grounds were shifting and expectations fluctuated in ways that made it difficult to anticipate what was expected of us.
Advice to Senior Management
More open communication between management and their subordinates would be helpful. It is much easier to do one's job well if one knows what is expected of them and what the plans are for the future.
Pros
The best reasons to work at DB: work/life balance promoted, competent and respected managers, takes on "green" initatives, high participation in local community charities.
Cons
Stunned growth for lower tiered employees. Stagnant message not always conveyed effectively or directly. Not as on par salary wise with industry it seems.
Advice to Senior Management
Communication and fair and just pay is key!
Pros
Benefits are good. Coming from Morgan Stanley, that's a big deal.
There is a lot of responsibility placed on IT folks. Competent people can have a big impact.
Cons
Trading systems are not world class; not even close. Well, equities at least, FX is top-notch.
Work in NY, senior mgt is in Europe and they try to apply "well it worked in London" theory to any new initiative or org change. Local mgt is good, off shore mgt rots.
Advice to Senior Management
Make some bold decisions and move to new trading technology. You can't really compete if you don't have the goods.
Pros
good support for job rotation
good growth opportunities but you need to find your own way
working to establish a better model. hopefully will be a much better place in the next couple of years
Cons
management is clueless. keeps changing directions
very political. hurts productivity and motivation of employees
hard to maintain work life balance
Advice to Senior Management
stop changing directions
listen to middle management and encourage it to drive the decisions
involve other regions besides london in the decision making
Pros
- Good benefits compared to other banks (3 weeks vacation for 1st year at Associate-level or higher, 4 weeks per year thereafter, VPs and above get 5 weeks per year)
- Solid, stable bank that has weathered the financial crisis well
Cons
- Some morale issues, depending on the department (some depts have experienced more turnover/restructuring than others)
- Technology is generally subpar here compared to other banks
- Although salary and bonus can be OK for some, it is under-market for many; new, unproven employees hired from the street can be earning more than experienced, tenured employees who already know the business)
- Politics can be especially heavy here, depending on the department and the local manager. Management seems to place a high focus on visibility instead of overall contribution. For example, someone who stays until 7pm every day BSing most of the day and then beginning to work hard in the afternoon will be viewed more favorably than someone who comes early, leaves early but works hard the whole day.
- Uneven standards for performance evaluations and promotions depending on the department and local manager.
Advice to Senior Management
Grade performance objectively among staff. Too much is based on how well management 'likes' staff rather than judging on client skills and overall competence. Be consistent in performance evaluation standards across staff (i.e. - do not use different standards for employees in the same function in the same department).
Pros
I had a very positive experience as an intern. All the bosses were extremely friendly and honorable; it completely went against the typical stereotype one might hear about a large bank firm. The employees were extremely helpful and there seemed to be a good synergy between everyone.
Cons
There were a few employees who were often aggressive and not polite. This, however, was a very small minority of the people on the floor.
Advice to Senior Management
I suppose I would suggest that there should be some events to increase friendships between different employees (there seemed to be some cliques).
