    I worked at Deutsche Bank

    Pros

The diversity of the people is amazing. I always enjoyed hearing Italian, Dutch, German, Spanish, French and other languages when I was at work.

    Cons

Pay. People. Bonus. Management. Everything that a bank could do right, DB should try to learn from that bank.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Super global, still all products and businesses. Technology is now taken very seriously

    Cons

Not so much. It's an IB, so there are big egos and bs.

I have been working at Deutsche Bank full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Salary is well above anything else in the area, plus a fat bonus if you play the game well. Nice office, some of the best and smartest colleagues I've worked with anywhere in the Triangle. The talent here really is amazing. If the Bank would let us, we could be making world class software. Such a shame.

    Cons

DB is a dinosaur of a company. They are trying to change (or so they say). The story of the Cary center is that the powers that be (London) brought in all these software people who are used to working in a modern software development environment, and they try to run us like it's 1994. Everyone is angling for a bonus, so short-term strategies are prioritized over long-term, leading to a disjointed mess.

They won't leave us alone to do our jobs. There is no understanding of or appreciation for modern tools and practices or what makes software people tick. We're skinning legacy Java applications in GWT and they're calling it 'sexy'. We have people who would love to be doing really innovative financial applications in modern technologies like Node and Angular. But it'll never happen here.

Politics. So many politics. The worst I've ever seen anywhere, ever.

People stick it out for the money but everyone is burnt out, frustrated, and unhappy. People talk openly about interviewing other places.

Management in Cary are nice but they have no real authority. Lots of empty promises to keep stringing you along until it's too late in the year to leave before bonus time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

London needs to learn how modern software works, or they need to go back to the vendor model and give up on the Cary dream.
