big one going through difficult times

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Bonn (Germany)

Prosgood salary, international opportunities, interesting industry with relevance to everyone, innovation areas are very good eg mWallet, mobile Cities, M2M etc.
working in TelCos is still extremly inetresting

Consreducing the international scope right now, in some areas reduction programs with a target to reduce up 40%, thus the mood is all time low, unlikely to be the driver of innovation in TelCos

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Great company to work with

    Manager (Current Employee)
    Bonn (Germany)

ProsGood management, high strategic visibility - good place to start your career. Also good employer for students who wish to work while studying.

ConsLarge MNC - business steering requires time. Processes can take long time but that itself is an interesting learning for new graduates.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep it up

Fun people but way too many people - getting in each other's way

    Head of (Current Employee)
    Bonn (Germany)

    Pros+ Good salary
+ Great working conditions (IT, phones
+ Freedom to work on topics and design own work
+ Nice surroundings (River, Cafeteria, on-site services)
    + Sexy products
    + Nice people

    Cons+ Terrible processes
    + Endless discussions
+ Way too many people responsible for the same topic
+ Little freedom to actually change things

Advice to Senior ManagementYou should sack 30% of the people and give those left larger scope of responsibilities, plus stop doing for tremendous amount of stuff which generates no value beyond making middle management look better.

    Powerful, market driven, bureaucratic.

    Vice President (Current Employee)
    Warsaw (Poland)

ProsMarket relevance, scale of your impact. Very interesting time of change from pure telco to service company. A lot of tallented managers and experts.

ConsClosed corporate culture, bureaucratic style of management, not up to date with latest technologies. Lack of internal drive to change quickly.

Advice to Senior ManagementFoster change, commercialize innovation. NOW.

A very big ship, offering a lot of opportunities and positions with responsibility.

    Senior Manager (Current Employee)
    Bonn (Germany)

ProsInnovative and international working environment, a lot of benefits like special product offers for employees (30% discount) or a broad catalogue of further education courses, freedom to self-determine your daily work

ConsSometimes slow and inefficient processes, lack of dynamic due to overlapping responsibilities and therefore political blocking of projects

Advice to Senior ManagementCondense hierarchy levels, assign dedicated over-arching goals for employees (reduce silo thinking)

    In one word - disorganized.

    Senior Program Manager (Current Employee)
    Bonn (Germany)

ProsHigh worker rights for non-management and very secure contracts. (internal saying in company "not doing your job is not enough to get fired") Upper management is clever in controlling financial aspects of company to cover poor internal and inefficient operations.

ConsLots of high-level "visions, missions, and strategies" with very few cohesive/tangible action plans. Most people work for themselves and personal targets (even at the lowest levels). If personal targets conflict with new activity then it's like moving the Titanic to get people to contribute. Practically all the management of VP and above are the highest level of self-promoters and very rarely work with each other (lots of "Kingdoms") even when told to do so. Most management of VP and above do everything they can to remain relevant in highly redundant organisations. Internal politics is everything in this company, and everyone chooses a side. Most management decisions are made with these political considerations and not for whats best for the company. DTAG still has a long road ahead to mimic other global telecom leaders.

Very, very tricky and misleading bonus arrangement. Bonuses are in the form of a salary variable which is actually a percentage of normal pay. Meaning a PM will make approx 80k but in actuality will only take home 80% of the 80k. The other 20% must be earned in personal targets. Possibility exists to reach 120% of the the remaining 20% but is very rare. Therefore bonuses actually do not exist.

Advice to Senior ManagementEliminate the massive amount of redundant organizations, greatly reduce the number of VP's and above, and empower/support the remaining VP's and above to make decisions without the fear of political suicide.
