I have been working at Deutsche Telekom AG as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

Once your in, your contract keeps rolling.

    Cons

    Terrible location
Terrible canteen, I mean really bad!
No communication with colleagues, management, clients or users
They sack all the talent and keep the deadwood as the talent asks why the cruisers are allowed to cruise, its insane!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the dead wood, ask yourself why ALL projects in the last 5 years have failed.

I worked at Deutsche Telekom AG as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

    - Young team
    - Helpful
    - DIverse tasks
    - Fair working hours
    - Good salary

    Cons

My supervisors didn't seem to know what I actually study. Many of the tasks I was assigned I was either completely overqualified for or did not meet my expertise at all. Also instructions were vague and at times I didn't even know what the point of my task was. I did not feel that this internship taught me much for my future career.

The cafeteria is very expensive by the way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Prepare the internship more according to the person you actually employ.

I have been working at Deutsche Telekom AG full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

High worker rights for non-management and very secure contracts. (internal saying in company "not doing your job is not enough to get fired") Upper management is clever in controlling financial aspects of company to cover poor internal and inefficient operations.

    Cons

Lots of high-level "visions, missions, and strategies" with very few cohesive/tangible action plans. Most people work for themselves and personal targets (even at the lowest levels). If personal targets conflict with new activity then it's like moving the Titanic to get people to contribute. Practically all the management of VP and above are the highest level of self-promoters and very rarely work with each other (lots of "Kingdoms") even when told to do so. Most management of VP and above do everything they can to remain relevant in highly redundant organisations. Internal politics is everything in this company, and everyone chooses a side. Most management decisions are made with these political considerations and not for whats best for the company. DTAG still has a long road ahead to mimic other global telecom leaders.

Very, very tricky and misleading bonus arrangement. Bonuses are in the form of a salary variable which is actually a percentage of normal pay. Meaning a PM will make approx 80k but in actuality will only take home 80% of the 80k. The other 20% must be earned in personal targets. Possibility exists to reach 120% of the the remaining 20% but is very rare. Therefore bonuses actually do not exist.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Eliminate the massive amount of redundant organizations, greatly reduce the number of VP's and above, and empower/support the remaining VP's and above to make decisions without the fear of political suicide.

Former Employee - Project Manager in Frankfurt am Main (Germany)

I worked at Deutsche Telekom AG

    Pros

DTAG is located in over 50 countries worldwide. DTAG has massive ICT resources. DTAG is still partly owned by the German Government.

    Cons

DTAG HQ leaders and top managers, being primarily native-born Germans, inaccurately assume they understand and know what is going on outside of Germany without the necessary motivation nor courage to ask open questions like "Wie geh'ts?"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop placing 100 percent emphasis on technology, process optimization, finances and governance and start working directly with your global staff. Start working with people. Deal with the human factors and DTAG's stock price will double in three months - guaranteed!

I worked at Deutsche Telekom AG

    Pros

    Decent benefits package

    Cons

    Not particularly challenging
No accountability for decisions or performance
Performance culture very lacking meaning that there is litte incentive for driven, motivated calibers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The soft stuff is the hard stuff - get performance management right and an accountability and performance culture will develop. The rest will follow.
