    Pros

Top-shelf benefits, including four weeks vacation per year.

    Cons

Many deserve credit for building Dex digital and making it great. Unfortunately, they've all left the company. New management is Dallas-based and clueless.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

    -Good PTO
    -401k matching
-Some of the people working there are great

    Cons

Like one of the reviewers below said - WHERE do I start? It is one of the most inefficient places I worked at. After a couple of years, I got to the point where I really did not care about anything I was doing at this place. A few things led to this: from management not having a clue what they are/were doing to project requirements changing daily, to no one (different departments) communicating among each other and working as a team...Basically, everyone over there works for themselves and for their own interest/agenda...from director up. I do think that DexOne will either get acquired by another company who is willing to take on 2 billion in debt that DexOne is in or it will just fail due to the things I mentioned above. Other than perks I mentioned under the Pros above and some really really nice people I worked with at DexOne, there is no other reason why I could recommend this company to anyone.

    Advice to Management

Quit ASAP. Also, it is very annoying when you keep hiring (mostly on the Product side of the house) people that previously failed (i.e. got fired) at other places...hint: "MySpace success stories" you know who you are!

    Pros

Work with fun people. Learning a lot new things. Free lunch twice a week. People here are really easy to work with.

    Cons

smaller company, system and process are not well organized. Too far from where I live. No working from home system.

    Advice to Management

give employee more flexibility. Establish a better process for agile process and also communication between department. but over all, this company is great!

    Pros

    - Great time off
    - Competitive salary
    - Some good people
    - Weekly lunches
    - Good office location

    Cons

    - Constant turnovers in both top management & key employees
    - No clear direction & strategy
    - Dex does not value its customers! The #1 objective is sales as opposed to selling something of value! Hence, the 30% drop in advertisers over only a one year period!!!!
    - Constant reorganization of the departments (new reporting structure, new desk location, etc)
    - The younger/healthier/tech sector staff subsidizes the healthcare costs of the rest of the company which are mostly older with less healthy habits!!!! What was once 100% paid healthcare is now about 30% paid! This was AFTER they promised no more changes for 2 years yet they broke their promise once again!
    - Constant cuts in bonus & healthcare with no salary raise to compensate for it so you actually take a PAY CUT the longer you work there!!!!!
    - No clear communication between departments
    - Constant deprioritization of projects indefinitely!
    - HUGE debt with no effective plans to repay!

    Advice to Management

Start by firing the CEO & most top management! Start valuing your customers & actually producing products that make a difference not repackaging & renaming the same products under a new name! Stop the lip service to the employees & start taking steps to show that you actually care!!!

    Pros

-Forward thinking technology company (in Santa Monica)
-Many challenges and problems to be solved by A-players who want to dig in and affect change
    -Amazing location and office space
-Fun office culture (parties, events, ping pong, etc)

    Cons

-Top level leadership doesn't understand digital / tech
-Preponderance of mid-level leadership company-wide came up in print world and also doesn't understand digital / tech
-Overall legacy history with print makes for a lot of leaders pushing top-down initiatives to mitigate inevitable decline of print, resulting in sub-optimal digital strategy -- incredibly frustrating
-Grossly under-resourced in Santa Monica office on tech side (PMs, Dev, QA, etc) making all aspects of product development excruciatingly difficult
-Leaders lack focus and a lot of their initiatives do not coalesce into a unified / directional strategy

    Advice to Management

Tech companies need to move fast without bureaucracy and BS if they are to compete in a world of companies like Google. You'd do well to trust your digital talent and get out of their way.

    Pros

    - Work-life balance: flexible schedule (work from home, etc), 20 days off per year plus holidays
    - Compensation: above average salary, 6% 401k match
    - Location: Santa Monica office building with Starbucks, Renovo, La Salsa, sushi, dry cleaning, etc. downstairs
    - Food: catered lunch on Mon and Wed, Bagels on Fri, 25 cent vending machine
    - Offsite enrichment: sponsored conferences and training (within reason and approval)
    - Smart colleagues in Santa Monica (although they are quickly disappearing... see retention issues under "Cons")
    - Level of effort required: the bar is currently set so low that little effort will make you shine

    Cons

    - Culture: formerly one of LA's "Best Places to Work," Business.com was acquired by RH Donnelley (now Dex One) in 2007. Since then, culture has gone downhill as a lot of the people who made it special left in droves, they were replaced with ineffective leaders without strategy (details below), causing even more employee attrition (details below).
    - Leadership: lacking vision and direction, leadership continually promises strategy and change yet fails to deliver. Partially to blame is the industry itself, as the parent company is deeply ingrained with the dying print yellow pages and is largely disconnected to the needs of the interactive division (aka the future of the company).
    - Employee attrition: due to lack of leadership and strategy, the aforementioned smart employees end up wasting time and energy on useless projects that will never launch or contribute to company success. This causes frustration and boredom, resulting in a mass exodus and continuous trickle of employees leaving the company (even taking pay cuts). That being said, leadership has voiced that there is no current retention plan for the employees that are left.
    - Expensive health benefits: the Santa Monica office is grouped with the rest of Dex One around the country (largely Cary, NC and Denver, CO), although the SM demographic is younger and healthier. Salary brackets for premiums are also uniform, forcing SM employees into the highest premiums although it's cost of living that enables the higher salaries. There is no longer an HMO offering. With all aforementioned changes (causing up to 300% increase in cost for some employees), the communication was very poor and misleading.

    Advice to Management

Leadership shouldn't just be reflected on VP, SVP, or C-level titles; it should be acted and carried out. Decide on a strategy once and for all, and stick with it, live it, breathe it throughout the organization. Realize that although print is still the cash cow, it is dying, and interactive (projects and employees) needs to be the highest priority. So, make extra effort to retain the dwindling interactive talent that you have left, as supposedly we are the future of the company.
