Advice to Senior Management
clarify the future
Pros
health insurance coverage
9 to 5 "work" hours
Cons
the real work done is not recognized
too much sterile politics
obvious glass ceiling
no management leadership at every level while the bank face another crisis
communication within branch and intra group non existent at best
Advice to Senior Management
really no lessons learned since 2008
Pros
Benefit package here is quite good. Vacation time is generous, at 4 weeks for AVP, 5 for VP. Other reviews are spot on when they say that the work-life balance is good. Evening or weekend work is almost unheard of.
Cons
Lack of motivation and initiative among many of the worker bees. No real innovation here. IT organization is completely inept, using technologies long considered out-of-date at any other "real" bank. Typical French politics. if you speak the language, you might advance a bit faster than a non-French speaker.
Advice to Senior Management
Completely overhaul inept IT organization by eliminating current management and hiring qualified individuals Stop hiring consultants to do work that can easily be done by internal staff who've been properly trained. Stop wasting money on outsourcing business processes that can be done more easily (and cheaply) in-house. Pay more in salary to attract higher-caliber talent.
Pros
Security, Stability, Usability, Profesional, Innovation
Cons
Low Internal mobility,Language Barriers,Weak career management, Old IT system,
Advice to Senior Management
Very proactive
Pros
Dexia is a place where you can enjoy a good work life balance and good benefits. If you know the right people, you can live there forever.
Cons
Very political
Foreign based so French and Belgian people have the "home" advantage
Pay is very much below market
Poor management
Terrible HR
Advice to Senior Management
Because management will always be French and Belgian, talented local people in NY will be promoted only to a certain point and leave the company because there will no longer be any opportunity for growth for them. It's a shame. And, paying low, Dexia keeps attracting people with poor performance record.
Pros
Terrific benefits and a very strong work-life-balance ingrained in the culture. In very rare occasions are the weeks where most people work more than 40 hours. Additionally, the health insurance benefits are provided by the company. In the world of banking/finance, job security is something most people have in Dexia.
Cons
The compensation is well below the market. Additionally, having an expat Senior Management Team leads to complacency and lack of initiative among native staff. Unfortunately, most of the senior managers are in NY for a five-year assignment and back off to Europe after it's over. This really should change to build a more solid team in all of the branches.
Advice to Senior Management
Allow there to be some risk taking and actually promote Americans to the higher levels in the NY Branch.
