Pros
With such a high employee trunover rate, Dey is always hiring, at all levels. If you have no experience in the pharmaceutical manufacturing business, it is a great place to work for a year or so to get experience under your belt.
Cons
Dey is a career builder, not a place for a career. The most common joke amongst the staff is that the slogan of Dey should be, "Dey Laboratories; We Train Genentech's Future!" The biggest problem is the pay scale. Dey policy specifically states that Dey's salary scale will be at the 50% point of surveys taken of the competition. It also states that Dey will attract and retain "the best and brightest" workers. They can't seem to see that paying a mediocre salary may attract good people for a while, but only retains the substandard.
Also, the future at Dey is very uncertain. They don't have any new drugs in the approval process (and the last one approved, Accuneb, was a total bomb), and the generic market is a very volatile market. Dey has a documented history of large (13% of workforce) layoffs with no warning to staff.
Third, there is a HUGE racial bias if you are not a Filipino.
Advice to Senior Management
Have an impartial, third-party company perform an employee satisfaction survey. HR keeps claiming that compensation is competative; find out what your staff believe, and why so many are leaving. My department had a 25% turnover rate in THREE WEEKS(!), and nobody seemed to care. It took over a year to hire enough staff to get back up to full strength, and we were there for only two months before the next person quit.
