Your career here depends a lot on your immediate senior

I worked at Diageo full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

great culture, heritage; a lot of time is dedicated to teach the values and explain the vision; put in efforts to explain one's role and how you personally fit in the big picture; some trainings available; management stays relevant and communicates well downwards (via internal website, blogs, etc.) Great colleagues, a lot of colleagues to learn from; very nice bar. They are not quick to fire people (unless brutal violations of codes) they would try to bring out the best in you

    Cons

Your career and days at an office can depend great deal on your immediate manager. I changed department and could not believe that I am still working for the same company. Perhaps it's not Diageo's fault, and even though mechanisms to speak up are in place, in practice they don't work perfectly, and oftentimes there is no point in trying to fight the mills, it's easier to just leave. depending on your immediate manager, fair to great amount of back-kissing should be in place in order to be recognized / promoted / rewarded. Post-crisis years came with deterioration of and cutting access to a great number of benefits, so those who've been with Diageo for years get more and more frustrated with the changing attitude, especially if one compares conditions between offices in London / Dublin and Budapest

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They really seem to be doing their best in hearing the voice of employees, but it is inherent that their voices are supressed in practice by fears of non-promotion; too many flaws in this not-so-perfect corporate world. Try speaking to employees directly, make the Speak Up thing really work. Make management evaluation more frequent; even monthly (especially for new team leaders!) as annual evaluations very rarely reflect the truth, especially with rotating leaders

    Pros

    Proud company values
Easy to link with product and be engaged
Plenty of internal opportunities when changing roles
Easy to build out your career network

    Cons

    Sometimes decision making is slow
If you are involved in month-end closing activities then sometimes it is hard to keep work-life-balance
Salary and benefit package is okay but there is a space to improve

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more involved in decision making and delegating authority
Take money, time and effort to celebrate successes with employees

I have been working at Diageo full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Nice building, nice people, stable environment, precise salary, good neighborhood, good (customizable) cafeteria and other benefits, good healthcare

    Cons

Low salary, even for a junior programmer,
slow solution management in the company,
(really) idiot middle-managers, who doesn't even know what their team does as a daily work,
boring, absolutely useless meetings, where nothing happens except talking about nothing and/or trivial things

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decide about the promotions based on the results, not about the who is who's who, and asslicking (russia team in hungary knows very well, what I'm talking about).
Oh, and you should really hire someone to the upper management who knows more about IT than you do. As I see now, all you know about IT is that it's some thingy with blinking screens.
