I worked at Diageo full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Working on some of the most recognisable brands in the world was a great experience. Everything you would expect and more from a large corporate organisation. There was great autonomy in all the roles I did and my managers trusted my judgement to get things done. There was good opportunity for progression and being a large global company the opportunities were endless. The additional benefits on top of basic salary, pension and share scheme, are something I am definitely going to miss.

    Cons

Sometimes the decision making took far too long and also involved far too many people to get things moving quickly.
Re organisations were common across the company and occurred every 18 months to 2 years

I have been working at Diageo full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great iconic brands - company benefits, healthcare

    Cons

The interview process - Diageo has a strong culture and moral code for a Dignity at work Policy. Personal experience has demonstrated that this is only when it really suits them. HR are very poor if I'm honest, over 4 separate occasions the delays - the lack of internal communication is overwhelming. The direction internally seems lost and there is an inner circle from networking to face fits scenario. 1 month waiting to hear anything - roles that are advertised, then pulled, then someone fills internally without consultation.
Treated from a headhunted high performer to just cut out completely and financially ruined isn't in any company values I've seen however has happened to me. I'm sure Ivan isn't aware of the condition of the business leaders he heads up.

    Pros

Most amazing brands to works for, nice people and flexible work environment

    Cons

Decision taking takes ages. Many projects did not materialise simply because of prioritisation / resourcing issues. I do not think business could resolve global / regional / local marketing matrix.

I worked at Diageo full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people, excellent culture, amazing benefits

    Cons

Leadership lack basic leadership skills. Most leadership don't have people skills and only think about their own careers. This is a major block for career progression for talented people. Too much restructuring

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop thinking short term and don't throw money at everything because you have the liquidity. Think about the best and cost effective way of doing something. Make sure you don't get into the situation where you don't have to restructure because you thought about the problem at a tactical level. Regular Restructuring will avoid talented people joining or leaving the organisation. Wake up Ivan

I have been working at Diageo full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great brands, some very good people, bar on site, flexible working arrangements, gym, good compensation schemes

    Cons

London HQ in the middle of nowhere, lots of talk but no action to back it up, rotating senior teams with no clue what they should be doing in their jobs sometimes, invisible management with little leadership despite talking about it all the time, very little appetite for improvement, massive waste of funds and inefficiency, frequent reorganisations, career adavncemnt supposedly based on appraisal process but in relaity based on networking only, appraisal process extensive but vague and ultimately not adding any value

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Walk the talk, be more balanced in your communications - putting a positive spin on things is not going to fix them

I have been working at Diageo full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Development opportunities through international network, on the job training, great emphasis on work life balance, great buzz in most offices, sexy brands to work for, cultural diversity, informal, great secondary benefits

    Cons

Speeding up decision making, primary benefits could be a little better

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Finally crack the nut of speeding up decision making and agility, make the company name as an overall brand covering all the individual brands more known

I have been working at Diageo full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - good work will be rewarded eventually being promoted
    - cross-functional moves at same possible are possible
    - international career opportunities
    - great brands
    - good atmosphere and frequent events linked to the nature of the brands we are selling
    - nice (head)office
    - very flexible working hours and working location (good work life balance)

    Cons

    - not very well paid (I guess because of all the cons)
    - reorganization every 2-3 years (as is most multinationals) causing a period of disturbance
    - expensive meals in company restaurant
    - don't always walk the talk

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - do more effort in keeping your best talents - be proactive in this rather than reactive!
    - even though international moves happen a lot more than before, L3 and above roles are still mostly taken by British (and some American/Irish)
    - as many international people move to headoffice, HR could maybe consider to organize some bi-weekly after work activities

I have been working at Diageo full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    The brands, flexy working etc

    Cons

    -HR processes are unbelievably weak
    -Leadership standards
-Employee Engagement (verified by dismal (and decreasing) internal engagement survey)
-Direction (there is a re-org every two years resulting in talent flush outs, and no one left to do the job afterwards)
    -Pay is average at best
-Actively discriminates against males (another great HR process to hire more females)
.... ugh i could go on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Doesn't matter. 99% chance they will hire another consultant to make their internal decisions (performance ambition much Diageo )
