I worked at Diageo full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The business side tends to be fun, lots of free liquor, and bars at the main offices

    Cons

The company is making some major changes, going from a growth mindset to taking margins

I have been working at Diageo full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The benefits are great and it's a fun environment to work in.

    Cons

Constant re-orgs which result in lay offs. Only those who fit the "culture" remain for the long-term haul.

I have been working at Diageo as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

You can get exposure to different responsibilities just because everyone is so busy that they don't have time to help you out on your project. I don't mind being a jack of all trades.

    Cons

lots of work but make do with contractors. Manager had an immature attitude when I told them that I am leaving for a new opportunity as there was no scope for me here to move up or gain more responsibilities. Maybe it is a location thing as I have read good reviews about the east coast location, which seems to be the headquarters in NA.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value employees and hire new people. Smaller companies hire and value their employees so they contribute a lot to their respective companies as well. You want brand and/or company loyalty then you have to hire new people.

I have been working at Diageo as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

I was an intern and the company was really wonderful. Everyone was generally happy, willing to help, and enthusiastic about their job.

    Cons

The interview process felt rather disorganized as they were restructuring the division I was interning. My initial start date kept being pushed back, but once I began, I loved it!

I worked at Diageo full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

You learn how to navigate a complex organization and sell/win over key stakeholders through numerous meetings and presentations. Great consumer understanding.

    Cons

Very politically driven organization, which can mean a lot of opinion offsetting facts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is an opportunity to better understand what truly motivates people in their careers, and drive engagement and loyalty through that.

I have been working at Diageo full-time

    Pros

Given a lot of responsibility, opportunity and trust. They are flexible on where you work and the majority of people are very approachable.

    Cons

There are a lot of re-orgs going that affects morale. They aren't great at day to day engagement, it's a little basic for such a huge company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would spend more time training new employees and make use of technology more.

Overall a good company depending on department/function

    I worked at Diageo

    Pros

Lots of opportunities to work on new projects and gain new experiences and skills. Many talented dedicated employees. The company is truly dedicated to community work and services and making a positive impact and giving back.

    Cons

Difficult to move within the company from department to department. The company struggles with it's culture and is inconsistent with how it demonstrates, implements and rewards it's core values.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Far too much emphasis is placed on "branding" one's self and managing upwards. Due to this cultural phenomenon the right thing is sometimes not done in an effort to do what is perceived as the political right thing to be done or the easy "check in the box". Managers/leaders tend not to show courage rather they fall in line rather than challenge status quo.
